Late evening robbery leads to shooting on Coney Drive

Late this evening the gun violence hit close to home. A brazen robbery at a grocery store off Coney Drive close to Channel Five, led to a chase, shootout and subsequently the capture of one assailant. Just after five p.m., two persons entered a store located at the corner of Blue Marlin Boulevard and Coney Drive posing as costumers. They picked up two Monsters drinks and approached the counter. But the robbers carried a bag, concealing a weapon which they used to hold up the cashier. They demanded money, it was handed to them and they fled on bicycles. But the proprietors of the store set chase in their vehicle and spotted one of them at an open lot adjacent to our offices and fired several shots. Shortly after the GSU and police officers responded and captured Michael Polanco. His accomplice is still at large.

I am for law abiding citizens protecting there lives and property. And good job from the police. Now if only the court system can do their part.

Great work by the GSU. This is the kind of work that deserves to go on the news, hard working people who are working towards the betterment of our nation. I don’t know why seven news like to give air time to criminals and their families to lambase the hard working officers and for that matter allowing them to post threats to the officers family. That is unbecoming of that media house and “JULES” unless they are conspiring and enticing the gangs to retaliate against the police, who are doing their job. Seven news, got no news to air and so they put these vagabonds to put their big chats on the news and they twist the information they have to instigate criminal ideas and get the criminal minds to believe in these horrendous ideas of the police. Kudos to five news for keeping their news professional. Unlike seven news, five news got news and investigative reporting to air.

I know you all are glad that this robber got caught but lets be real. You cannot set chase and fire upon someone after they rob you. That is the polices job. we need to respect the law.i have already seen a civilian kill a man in front of the police and nothing was done. your licensed firearm is to protect you when your life is in danger. If the robbers already left and you set chase and open fire you should be charged.the law is for law abiding citizens as well as criminal.its for everybody. The minute we start making these exceptions we are failing ourself and the country. If this happened in the states or anywhere that follow their laws. The store owner would have ended up on the wrong side of the law.

i was shocked recently of those recently marching for peace. one relative said they are still grieving the death of the “:4 good men”. i was like WHAT! good to who? on whose standards were they good? its sad that they are caught at times, & few are kept in prison. but there is only so much Man can do for us. @Simone. great comment!
