The national selection A Team left for Costa Rica on Wednesday headed by the president of the F.F.B., the vice-present and the general-secretary. The team is gearing up tonight and is playing against the host country, Costa Rica, in one of the three games that will be played in the next five days. Tonight’s game will be brought to you live from Costa Rica. The UNCAF Copa-Centro Americana Tournament is a qualifier for the Gold Cup slated for July of this year. News Five spoke with Public Relations Officer of the F.F.B., Luis Pena about tonight’s game.

Luis Pena, P.R. Officer, F.F.B.

“The team is in very good spirits right now. They are excited and they are waiting for the game to play against host country, Costa Rica tonight. Today is the opening and the game with Costa Rica is one of the biggest games for today. We have in our path, Guatemala on Sunday at two p.m. and we also have Nicaragua on Tuesday at four p.m. In order to qualify for the Gold Cup which is the focus and aim of the present selection at this point in time, we need to win all three games. I say the all three games because the coach has stated that we going for a win in all three.”

“There were a lot of preparations; months of training put in place for this A selection team to go out there and represent Belize. How formidable do you think they are as contenders for that top spot?”

Luis Pena

“Well the team is in very good shape right now because we did the selections from since October, November we did the final twenty and then December, the guys were in camp from the first of December. So the team is well prepared—both physically and mentally. And the coach we have right now is an excellent coach and he has the team very united.  So we can expect great things from the national team today.”

So remember to stay tune to this station for the opening game against Costa Rica.

Win, lose, or draw, we can all be proud of our footballers. Fight on!

  2. Tiger says:

No men! Belize have better players than those who went. Come on… We can do much much better…

  3. Tiger says:

Poco Tiempo from Cristo Rey Cayo can do much better than the selection now in Costa Rica.

  4. Real Belizean says:

I agree with Bear…win, lose, or draw we are all proud of our team that went. The problem with us here is that a lot of bzns have no sens of patriotism when it comes to these things….matter of fact is the team is there representing us and we should all support them. Come on Tiger! Every football player in Belize was invited to the tryouts…..dunno what happened to the guys from Cristo Rey…

  5. Seletar says:

Sports can be a great uniter. I wish Cristo Rey, and all other footballers, had competed for spots on the team. Competition always improves the overall effort. Nevertheless, Belizean football was mired in controversy for several years, and I hope now we are off on a better foot of pure sports without political drama.
