Assistant ComPol Miguel Segura officially takes over Eastern Division

This morning’s weekly police press conference deviated from the norm, as the media was met by old faces in new commands. Assistant Commissioner of Police Elodio Aragon Jr., formerly head of Eastern Division, has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Operations. Assistant Commissioner of Police Miguel Segura takes over the reins of the Eastern Division, and while he is new to that post he is no stranger to Police work or to the public. Both Aragon and Segura shared their perspective on how they would put their imprint on the force.

“The two years and four months that I’ve been here, I am quite sure that we’ve done a lot of good work when it comes to the institutional capacity building of this police department. There’s a lot of changes that have taken place and I think some already in the progress of taking place. And change is always a part of evolution of things and I am quite sure that the change taking place today is a change where we will see things come to change especially when it comes to operational, management and administration of the Belize Police Department especially in Belize City and nationally. Today commemorates the taking over, the handing over of the Command of Eastern Division. As you all know, I will be moving on to the Deputy Commissioner’s desk with responsibility for operations at this point in time and we have Mister Miguel Segura, Assistant Commissioner of Police, who will now be taking over as Commander, Eastern Division. And of course he will be supported by his two deputies, Miss Desiree Phillips and Mister Marlon Allen. My Deputy Mister Miguel Guzman will also go to Belmopan too. I would just like to mention to the media and the public that I am quite sure and confident that Mister Segura and his team will be putting in all the effort they have in looking at how and ways to reduce crime in Belize City.”

“With this new taking over and knowing all the challenges on hand, I just w3ant to give the reassurances—both to the personnel of Eastern Division, to the community that we are here mandated to serve—that we will do our utmost best to win the fight against crime. If you see we have two deputies on board and the concept is to advance the community policing. We have Miss Phillips who has a lot of knowledge and exposure in that field. And then you have Senior Superintendent Allen also that will look at the intelligence and operations. What we need to do is to get more closer to the community. This is the concept of the precinct policing also, but more as we get along—I am just in the moment of taking over and all the projects that my colleague has left—to build on what is left, but also the dynamics of build on the quality of personnel. Many of times the decision that they make; those professional response, it’s by building on the quality of people that you can then build confidence.”

I hope that these changes will improve the professionalism, effectiveness, and aggressiveness of the police, and that they will carry on the assault on the gangs and other violent criminals until they are all jailed, dead, or fled. I’m sure the best wishes of the great majority of Belizeans are with these police leaders.

The officers appear to be a bit too fat to my taste!!

Fat tends to imply, ‘too easy’ and ‘undisciplined’.

  3. Belly says:

I concur with Iniate, those officers are a little to big. They should be the leaders and by that it entails giving a good example. Those PCs need exercise they get diabetes, heart attacks…etc the cost goes to the public.
