Returning to the scene of the crime

On the day after the quadruple murders were committed, we went back to the scene of the massacre at the apartment building at the corner of Dean and Plues Streets. The area is still barricaded and there are more boots on the ground, but there is a foreboding air on the streets adding to the tension that is being felt by residents who maintain that it is the work of the security forces. The residents question that if it is not the GSU, then who did it? News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

“It’s been over twenty-four hours since the gruesome discovery was made here at the corner of Plues and Dean Streets where members of the George Street Gang, were slaughtered sometime during the course of Monday night. It is the most horrific massacre in recent history; all four were found with multiple stab wounds to their bodies and their throats slashed. Since then, Dean Street has been barricaded and is heavy security patrols in the areas.”

“Well you have to understand that we are out there, we have our patrols on the ground and we are trying to prevent. But there are a lot of persons with personal grievances and issues and lot of these are crimes of opportunities. We cannot stop every crime, but we have to ensure that we have the resources to quickly mobilize and to do a proper investigation and try to arrest this situation.”

But despite the increased security presence, residents are still fearful for their lives for several reasons including, that the hit was carried out by the Gang Suppression Unit. One in particular, who lives a stone’s throw from the crime scene, left the area returned this evening to check on her home.

“People ran for their lives yesterday.”

Voice of: Resident # 1

“Dehn stay say that dehn di fire warning shots in the air, but no warning shots were in the air; the guys were aiming at people mien. Thank god afterwards nobody noh get hurt.  People are scared because the people weh we think should secure us, dehn dah the same people weh deh say do this thing. So that dah weh scared the Belizean people right now. We noh have kind of security in the city.  People are stating that they saw five men dressed in black coming down the back step of the building. That dah people weh see dehn, but neva see the people dehn. I understand that the guys were bawling out for help, so people was looking out and that dah weh dehn see.”

“So what are you and your family going to do now? Move from the area; stay here?”

Voice of: Resident # 1

“Me di plan fi move papa. I neva did stay over yah. I neva did stay last night and I noh wah stay tonight.  I will wait till everything cool. If ih noh cool well. The house noh value my life. My life value more than this house.”

Voice of: Resident # 2

Leonard Meyers

“So dehn slaughter dehn like pigs, but who? Dah who do it? That is the question.”

Who could have taken the lives of nineteen year old Albert “Long Johns” Fuentes, twenty-eight year old Anthony “Heads” Perez, thirty-year old Leonard “Ghost” Meyers and forty year old Keino Quallo? The facts are that there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment complex, the killers were stealth and the manner in which the heinous murders were executed and the modus operandi is not common for local homicides. The families of the deceased are still shocked by the homicide.

“Who else could have come? They’re saying it is cartel. What cartel? We don’t have no cartel. Can’t no cartel coming in? Y’all don’t have nobody at our borders looking to see who’s coming in and watching our borders and stuff, but y’all terrorizing the streets? I don’t know. Y’all saying it’s cartels, whoever is saying it is cartels, I don’t know. But it is real suspicious for someone just coming in that quietly and kill four men.”

Keino Quallo

Deputy ComPol Designate, Elodio Aragon Jr., says that while investigations continue, there are no leads as yet. Duane Moody for News Five.

Up to news time, the police department had not yet received a proclamation to seal off zone four, which is the Queen Square area including George Street.

The circumstantial evidence seems to point most strongly to the Zetas. Many are former military, they routinely dress in dark uniforms as described, they are ruthless, and they cut throats to make a point. Assuming there is some contact, a deal gone bad or some disrespect, between George Street and the Zetas or another cartel, then that would be all the motive they need. Life means nothing to the soulless zombies of the cartels.

Cartel members in the Jewel should be treated like terrorists, shot without trial every time they are captured. They need to know that Belize will be the burying ground of cartel members.

I think we should be asking the US for help in identifying the throat-slashers. They have lots of resources, and probably already know who did it from telephone intercepts and other intelligence.

Continue GAZA to live in denial-that there is no cartel. The mexicans are so good that they make you not even know they killled your guys. What was Pinky and Hambone etc doing in North Ambergris-Bacalar Chico-getting a tan? or on a romance with Mexicans

  3. Cho says:

this is the worst of the worst……..something seriously di go on dah Belize……This is unthinkable, heinous yet vicious. Looking at the gangs in belize kill by gun and for these four men to be stabbed? says alot and the police should else where…but this is by far to gruesome….4 men with throat slash?

We live in the age of globalization, yet small minded people fail to see beyond their borders.
Do the research: This MO smells like the ZETAS.

  5. OriginalWoman says:

Unbdlevable, another sad, sad ending for four men. Could the GSU have staged such a horrific murder ro make it look like others did it?? Or is it.some Spanish people with a beef that they had against these men??? This was a well planned execution! Someone in Belize knows exactly who and why!!! Sad state the country is facing.!! My heart is aching for Belize and I am praying for the carnage to stop soon!!! March my people, draw up petitions!!! Let your voices be heard loud and clear!!!! This corruption has got to stop!!!!

  7. Belizean Pride says:

hope no leads for real so they feel the same agony that other people have gone through when they are the ones who terrorize the city, no sympathy but a relief to see that this might have a impact with them, the run the streets with guns but when it’s there turn no even in close doors they are safe what goes around come around. now hope they take it like man, as they seem to portray themselves behind their guns.

  8. rev says:

belize we di plan wa revolution fi uno.but everything takes time.but you will see. revolucion para belice ya es tiempo de limpiar la suciedad del pueblo.

  9. SP says:

Original Woman, you are aching and praying, yet you ask whether ‘Spanish’ people had a beef with them. What exactly are your trying to incite here. Why just ‘Spanish’? could it not have been other ethnic groups or is it just ‘Spanish’ that use knives as weapon to kill. Please don’t make things worst than they already are!!!

  10. Al says:

People like Mr Yorke are a part of the problem. I read that his stepson was a high ranking member of the George street gang and he is going to play innocent . This man should have been trying to get his son to leave that stuff behind, but now he wants to blame others. These kind of parents are a big part of the problem. How did he know something was wrong at the apartment to go over there even before the police. He went in to the apartment took pictures and not knowing if the killer was still in there. Something is not adding up.

  11. Dig a little Deeper says:

Journalist need to investigate, who owns this house, who pays the rent, the light bill and the water bill is it the Ministry of human development or ministry of housing. are these individuals on payroll for any government dept, list all their charges previosly to show their criminal background. who pays for their stay at Gales Point retreat.

  12. OriginalWoman says:

Sp, you are correct. I was thinking of the spanish drug cartels who are known to use knives but Arabs are also known to get justice by killing with knives. I am half spanish so I did not mean,to sound so bias, but spanish and arabs are known to settle disputes in that manner. It is too bold a move for the gangs to go on enemy territory, so close to George Street. Spanish, Arab, or whomever did this are evil individuals!!! I hope the truth comes out!!!

  13. twosweetinez says:

The GSU did this however it doesn’t matter these guys have being terrorizing the Belizean people anyway.

  14. OriginalWoman says:

@ SP, just out of curiosity, why do you point out what I said, when many others have said they they too believe the killers could be spanish/Mexicans, ie: the Zetas Cartel. They ALL need to be found and punished!!! You are being too sensitive, when it really does not matter which race of people did it, black, white, yellow, red or brown!!!! Don’t try to go on another completely different topic!! This is a gruesome act of violence, and yes and I am aching and praying for Belizeans, as you should be too. Murder seems to be the norm these days in Belize, and it is sad to see and know this is happening on an everyday occurrence in our “Jewel!!” I hope Belizeans can come together, as a whole and find a solution.

  15. alley cat says:

The people cry out for blood, just like in the Roman Colesseum, innocent or guilty God will sort them out….

Belizeans are now forced to choose between morality and reality.

  16. DAF says:

we have to learn to share if we want better for our society, the wealthy man no care about the poor man, well just do your part and be merry, after all someone cannot take possessions when them dead, just keep your neighborhood happy and the people close by will help you. nothing bad comes out of being good. what more important your life of your abundance?? god provide for you everyday so why no help other, what if the one that has is in the opposite side will not he need from someone else? just but yourself in that position, and you will realize that giving helps someone out a lot.

  17. moses EX PC says:

OOPs! It was the GSU that did it. Every other scenario doesn’t make sense. This is certainly a game changer for Belize. WOW. Foreign hit men would have had to get in the country, go to unfamiliar parts of the city in the middle of the night and get away clean. Only Ghost (real ghost) could do something like this. All the evidence are falling in place now. I was very skeptical at first that GSU or some other rogue police unit could do this.
