ADO bus impounded for uncustommed goods

Licenciado Leonides Chavarria, of Mexican Bus Line ADO operating Cancun and Merida Tours into Belize City has confirmed that one of its busses was impounded on Sunday by Belizean Authorities at the northern border after uncustommed goods were found onboard. Chavarria says that a passenger owned up to the bag containing the goods and was fined ten thousand dollars by authorities. The Company had to pay three thousand Belize dollars for the release of the bus today since the contraband goods were on the bus. Chavarria says that in light of the incident, they are putting in mechanisms to ensure that the incident does not repeat itself, including conducting a revision of what passengers are uploading and informing terminal representatives of what can and cannot be imported.

I once took a ride with one of those buses to Mexico, and I became highly suspicious that stuff like that was going on.

Don’t blame the company. They can’t search everyone. You are responsible for your own goods.

  3. JANET says:

What was it soda pop again?
Something is wrong with this country when you can murder, steal, and get away with it, but don’t bring it soda pop, vegtables, cheese or other uncustommed goods.

@ Janet, I was asking the same thing. Plus, how you gonna hold the bus company responsible for goods brought on a public transport. Sometimes I truely beleive we got a bunch of numb skulls in positions of authority.
Indeed, this appears to be a case of much ADO about nothing!
    Yeah…. pun intended.

  5. JANET says:

    @ Louisville,Ky
You can’t hold the bus company responsible.
The money that was paid will not be going for the schools, roads, or medical care. It will be going to some corrupt government offical.

  6. Storm says:

If the website had bad or incomplete information on it and had to be revised so that tourists won’t be misinformed, then I think maybe this prosecution was unfair. Since Hammurabi, justice has required that people be informed of the laws and rules BEFORE they are enforced. It’s due process.

  7. Shelly L says:

It’s not the bus company’s fault, they would have to search everyone’s bags to make sure nothing illegal was in them and they don’t have time for that. ADO is a good company.
