Mom of accused says her son chopped in self-defense

Olivia Moody

Self defense; that is what the mother of twenty-nine year old Doran Moody claims led him to chop forty-three year old Mark Davis to the face, left hand and ear. Moody, it is reported, was in an altercation early on New Year’s Day with two young men with whom he had an old beef. And because these men are relatives of his common-law-wife, Deshan Swasey with whom he shares a four year old son, it is said that Moody became irate and started the altercation. Davis was then summoned to Swasey’s house at mile twenty-five and a half on the Philip Goldson Highway in Biscayne Village and that’s when he was chopped with his own machete. While Doran’s mother, Olivia Moody, does not deny her son’s actions; she is saying that he acted in self-defense. She claims that Davis aggressed her son with his machete, but Doran managed to take it away and hit Davis several times, causing his injuries. Olivia also says that she does not know where her son is.

Olivia Moody, Mother of Accused

“I get a call by my work saying that two young men attack my son saying that they are going for dehn big thing fi come and finish off what they had before. My daughter-in-law which is Deshan, my son common law wife, Deshan Swasey call me and say that they will take Doran to the police station to make a report. They went at Sand Hill Police Station make a report and they went to Ladyville Police Station and make a report.  The {Doran’s] mother-in-law live with the uncle of the guy that threatened him. Deshan Swasey, the common law wife mi live with one of the fellow before she get with my son. So it is just a conflict with them. He said he wanted to move and pack his bag while the door closed on him. Tell Deshan must open the door, [but] she was downstairs bathing. Ih tell the mother open the door, [but] they delayed to open the door. Meanwhile they called for a brother who lives about a mile or two away.  He come with a machete, tell my son get ih [BLEEP] out of my sister yard. Ih attack my son and my son take the machete and whip him with the machete where he get several incident on his body.”

“The uncle had attacked your son with the machete?”

Olivia Moody

“With the machete. So I call it a self-defense because my son neva hit no one in the yard, no one at home, no common-law, no mother-in-law, no father-in-law, no brother get hit by my son.  Where the first one come with a machete, tell ahn get out of the sister yard, take away the machete. Most naturally if somebody see you have wah machete ina yo hand, yo wah run. So ih run behind him and just flog him up and get several incident on his skin.”

Duane Moody

“His ears was almost severed, apparently he had chop wounds to his hand and had to get at least fifteen stitches on his hand; his face had stitches as well as his ears. He flogged him or actually chopped him?”

Olivia Moody

“Most naturally if someone get chop on his ears—you know how small wah ears is—that would completely off. Your face is lone bone. If wah machete chop yo most naturally it wah be wah deeper wound. You could neva recover wah incident with chopping it has to be flogging. If somebody chop yo on your hand, it is not going to be only fifteen stitches, it got to be more.   I understand that much say that if it neva was due to my son, Doran would have killed him.  Well again it is self defense and whenever somebody gets in a rage, who knows.”

Duane Moody

“But if someone is running from you and you are still charging at them with a machete, is it still self defense?”

Olivia Moody

“Well I wouldn’t know how far the distance, how far the running so that part I can’t say. We as the family member right now still di try fi locate him. And if soon—if nothing noh wrong with him—as soon as we locate him, we will turn him into the police.”

According to Moody, it is said that Davis’ brother, a police officer of Crooked Tree, was also called to remove Doran from Swasey’s house. Upon his arrival, it is said that the officer fired several shots presumably at Doran.

Mother, put a paper bag over your head and SHUT UP.

Doesn’t sound like self defense to me. The criminal had possession of the machete, the victim had no weapon, the criminal could have left without trying to kill the victim. Whatever happened before that, the criminal wasn’t hurt and he wasn’t in danger.

    Let him die in prison.

The first thing a reporter should ask an interviewee when the interviewee starts talking about an incident is “were you there” if the interviewee says no then it is a sign that at the least sheis giving an unreliable account and at the most an untruthful account. This lady talking for her son as if she saw everything with her own eyes.
