Burglaries and thefts across the Christmas holidays

Forty-one year old businessman Luis Castillo left his home on Electric Avenue sometime after seven o’clock on Christmas Day to visit family and friends in the Eight Mile community.  When the mechanic returned several hours later, he discovered that his residence had been burglarized.  The fence at the rear of the premises was breached and the burglar bars securing the middle right window of the concrete bungalow had been pried open where the thieves gained entrance to the building.  Stolen from inside Castillo’s home was an assortment of electronic items, including a large flat screen television, a personal computer, as well as other pieces of equipment.  Not satisfied, the intruders also made off with a collection of jewelry, before leaving the pockets of Castillo’s trousers upturned.  All told, Castillo lost a total of fifteen thousand, two hundred and sixty dollars in possessions during the burglary.  Fortunately, his home and personal belongings were insured. Meanwhile in Orange Walk, on Christmas Eve, a thirty-eight year old economist wasn’t as lucky.  His home on San Martin Street was also struck by thieves, who managed to steal a variety of jewelry and electronics valued at eight thousand, four hundred and thirty-nine dollars. Police are investigating these burglaries as well as the thefts of two boats in Corozal valued at eighteen thousand and ten thousand eight hundred dollars each. Corozal police have formally arrested and charged forty-one year old Elio Lopez, thirty-three year old Mark Daniels and twenty-seven year old Sergio Tun jointly for the crimes of Theft and Handling Stolen Goods.
