Bus Company gives scholarships to deserving kids

Three lucky students—two attending St. Luke Methodist Primary School and one attending first form at Wesley College—are the recipients of scholarships from the Belize Bus Owners Cooperative. Twins, Alyssa and Gregory Duran, as well as Toryeh Jones received six hundred and fifty dollars and seven hundred dollars respectively at their schools this morning. The scholarships are an initiative by the cooperation to give back to the community and the recipients were chosen based on their financial and educational needs. News Five was on hand for the handing over of the cheques to the recipients, who were ecstatic about the much needed assistance. Supervisor of BBOC, Maria Rodriguez, says they intend to make the scholarship initiative an annual event.

Bravo!!! BBOC!!! Bravo!!! When the Novelo family had the monopoly of the bus runs, they never gave any scholarship, not even to students from Benque. That’s why I am glad they went “bankrupt”, Although I here they are living like Kings in Miami. I hope that other bus lines in the country follow the example.

Education is the foundation to a good life, so I join in the heartfelt thanks and bravos for the bus company. And Merry Christmas to all, and God bless Belize.
