Habet Employee in Dangriga robbed of over $26,000

Mark Stevens

A supervisor of Habet Hardware Store in Dangriga was robbed late yesterday evening of over twenty-six thousand three hundred and thirty-two dollars. Terrence Peters was about to drop off the day’s sales at the Belize Bank’s night deposit when two robbers pounced on him. Peters was hit to the back of his head and the green plastic bag with the money was grabbed from his hand. Peters fought off the robber, but during the struggle, the bag fell and another male person picked up the bag and both robbers then escaped. The cash and cheques were from Belize Electricity Limited Bill payments.  Police say they are looking for a known suspect.

“Shortly after six p.m., we have Mister Terrence Peters, an employee of Habet’s Hardware Dangriga was robbed of the day’s sales while attempting to deposit at the Belize Bank. The incident happened in front of the bank and the robbers got away with some twenty-six thousand dollars in cash and cheques. No one was injured during the incident; however, we are looking for one Dorian Welcome, a resident of Dangriga, who we believe can assist us in that investigation.”

“Does the police believe that this was a set up or an inside job?”

“Well at this moment, no but we are being opened about it right now.”

“Sir I know that the bank is located on the main street; there are a lot of people around. Were there any witnesses?”

Via Phone: ASP Mark Stevens

“Umm, we have a couple witnesses of course because at the material time the incident occurred, we have some business places adjacent to the bank that were still open. And it happened just in front of the Hamalali Radio Station so of course we do have witnesses. They do know at least one of the persons.”

ASP Stevens says that residents should take caution during this time of the year as the holidays are on the horizon. On the twenty-sixth of November, the Officer Commanding Dangriga Police, Superintendent Robert Mariano, will be holding a meeting at the precinct to discuss security strategies with businesses to deter crime.
