2 more persons caught by Immigration Department

Jose Nelson Mejia

The Immigration Department continues to carry out sting operations in the city; three persons were taken to court on Wednesday and two more were charged today.  Jose Nelson Mejia and Zhong Yue Ruan, both bar owners, were charged in separate cases for illegally hiring immigrants. Mejia, the owner of Long Island Bar on Blue Marlin Drive appeared this morning before Magistrate Adolph Lucas Junior and was charged with four counts of employing a person not in possession of a valid working permit. The employees in question are Honduran nationals, Karina Juarez Castro, Enma Juarez Castro, Evelyn Suarez Rodriguez, and Nuri Ramos Castro. Initially, Mejia claimed he did not hire Enma, but he eventually pleaded guilty to all four counts.

He was fined a total of five thousand, five hundred dollars to be paid between December eighteenth and February twenty-second, 2013. Meanwhile, Ruan, a naturalized Belizean, faced eight counts of the same charge for employing Guatemalan nationals: Sandra Gallardo Saldivar and Brenda Pacay; Honduran nationals: Stefanie Perez, Sonia Enteriano, Donia Elizabeth Chirinos, Maria Calderon Orillana and Carmen Saldivar as well as Nicaraguan national Carla Sandoval Dixon. The eight women were working at Ruan’s business, Fusion Bar on Coney Drive. He also pleaded guilty to all counts and was relieved when Magistrate Lucas spared him from prison time and fined him fourteen thousand dollars to be paid by June 2013. After court, the twelve women were escorted back to the custody of Immigration officials, but it is not known if they will face any charges.

I support arresting the business people who hire people illegally — it is jobs that attract most of them here, AND those jobs should go to Belizeans until every Belizean has a job.

I SUGGEST THAT THEY ALSO SUSPEND THE BUSINESS LICENSE OF EACH EMPLOYER FOR 30 DAYS OR SO, longer for repeat offenses.

  2. verymad says:

Whats so funny? They know that next week more ilegals girls will come. They should charge them more money or time in jail so they learn there lesson. Come to the north we have a lot of them here.

  3. Where do I buy a passport? says:

Besides bars, another hot spot is the after hour landings at the airport.
They got plane loads with counterfeit visas issued by embassies.

How is it coming on the Hezbollah passport investigation?
Just another news story, a govt investigation started never to be heard of again.
Three days to arrive, get birth certificate, drivers license and passport, that is efficient.
Those govt workers should be given a prize for their work.
Someday maybe average citizens get fast service.

Time to go after homosexual weed smokers, nail two crimes and fill one bed bunk at Hatteville.
These people are easy to control, murderers are too difficult and dangerous to keep in prison.
That is the new govt efficiency, besides magic passports and drivers licenses.

    Any news on Mello?
Could he be McAfee’s hit man? Or an undercover GSU agent? Body guard for PM?
He got good speed on his immigration docs.
