G.O.B. plans to intervene in City Hall affairs

Dean Barrow

The mending of fences between the City Hall and Waste Control is also being helped by government intervention. Prime Minister Dean Barrow was asked to give his take on the huge arrears, especially at a time when the council is trying to float a twenty million dollar bond for infrastructure works. The PM says Mayor Bradley may have stretched himself too thin, but that government will intervene.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Clearly the Mayor is stretched thin as a consequence of the wonderful attitude that he came into office with and the action he’s taken with respect to infrastructure. He needs that bond to be floated in order to give himself some breathing room. I don’t think there is a soul that can sympathize with his difficulties; on the other hand, clearly Mister Waste Control needs to be paid. Before I left last week, I had spoke with the mayor after I got word of an urgent SOS from Mister Griffith. The mayor proposed a payment plan and I thought that had been accepted. Obviously it hasn’t. I will not get involved again and see how it is that I can help to bridge this gap that exists between waste control and the mayor. I have to be careful because we are negotiating the external debt; somebody has to be upstairs at Love FM about well will I offer promissory notes, guarantees. Well that’s not on given the larger exercise in which we are engaged. But I am sure that there is a way in which I and the government can help and so I will speak to the mayor sometime today and government will intervene in some form or fashion.”

When your never in the country this is why the country is in the dirt box because any country any country who has a supposed leader who goes on vacation over 30 times for the year does not know what’s happening in the country you cannot run a country by running away judas barrow is and has been a total failure at this job perhaps he is a good lawyer but he is surely a utter and complete failure at his present job and the saddest part is that his incompetence is costing hundreds of lives. If I was in his shoes I’d resign for the good of the belizean people.

If government — Citco and GOB alike — actually developed a balanced budget that covered the essentials, and then spent according to the budget, we would not have problems at any level. Every citizen in the Jewel [except for abnormal ones like Gapi Vega's family] has to do the same and live within their means. It’s amazing how stress disappears when you are not always in debt or stealing from one place to spend another.
