Trial begins against police officers and a customs boatman implicated in drug plane landing

Under extremely tight security, a trial involving police officers accused in one of the biggest drug busts in the country is currently underway. Before Justice Denis Hanomansingh in the Dangriga courts, the case started on Monday of four police officers and two others charged for aiding in the importation of cocaine into Belize. On trial are Police officers: Renel Grant, Lawrence Humes, Jacinto Roches, Mark Middleton and Customs boatman Harold Usher as well as Victor Logan.  Jury selection took place on Monday and fifty-six witnesses are expected to be called by the time the trial concludes next week. On November thirteenth, 2010, a Colombian plane landed on the southern highway between miles fifty-six and fifty-seven loaded with twenty-nine thousand kilos of cocaine with a value of one hundred and sixty-eight million dollars. The defendants were detained in the vicinity and linked to the importation of the cocaine. They were subsequently charged and in July 2011, they obtained Supreme Court bail. Prosecuting are Senior Crown Counsel Cecil Ramirez along with Taysha Grant and Leroy Banner while the team of defense attorneys includes Simeon Sampson, Dickie Bradley and Kevin Arthurs.

I can bet that all these gov employees will get off free of charge and why because if any of them is convicted then the ones at the top will be exposed and that will not happen period.

  2. Belizean says:

  3. Young Gial says:

  4. Storm says:

  5. JUNGLE says:

  8. R.I. says:

STORM and ROD. I am tired of you guys!!! everything that is good u make it bad and of coarse the bad you make it worse and everything that happens it is the governments fault!!! when will you start blaming the PUP lawyers that defend the criminals, rapist, murderers drug traffickers and thieves??? Look men the Government and police did their part on arresting this bad and crooked cops and who is defending them???? PUP LAWYERS (DICKIE, SAMPSON and ARTHURS) one missing Arthur Saldivar!!!

  9. Storm says:

@R.I. — nice to hear from you.

    1. I’m an equal opportunity despiser of crooked politicians, UDP, PUP. I love the Jewel and think the nation is too good for its leaders over recent years. I pray for a national government one day made up of honest and wise patriots, who will put the good of the nation and its future ahead of their own hidden bank accounts.

    2. I never mentioned the government in my post above, only the defense lawyers and the cartel. Do you doubt a cartel is involved in this crime?

    3. A month or so back I posted a challenge here to Dickie Bradley to close his private practice for a while and use his obvious great skills to work for the prosecution for a while, as a service to a country that has made him rich. I’d admire him if he did that. “What profits a man to gain the world but lose his soul?” Mark 8:36

He hasn’t answered the challenge so far.
