Lavern “Antichrist” Longsworth gets life in prison for murder

Lavern Longsworth

Last Thursday, a jury of twelve persons found Lavern Longsworth, also known as Anti-Christ, guilty of the murder of her common-law-husband, David White. Longsworth was back in court this morning for sentencing before Justice Adolph Lucas. Her family, as well as White’s family, was both in court where it got emotional.  In her mitigation plea, Longsworth’s last words were full of remorse. She said she had told White’s mother, that she was sorry. Eighteen year old Kyla Reynolds, who is Longsworth’s daughter, was also present.  She told the court that though her mother made many people cry and sad, she still loved her and forgiveness is everything. Reynolds said that when her father and mother had fights, she always asked her mother to go to the station, but that she refused. Longsworth’s daughter also said, “When I heard the jury say ‘Guilty’ my heart almost stopped.  I am just asking for mercy on my mother’s behalf.   I am apologizing to David’s family for what my mother did.  But can you please find it in your heart to forgive her?” Longsworth had reportedly been a victim of domestic abuse and on July fifteenth, she doused him with gasoline and set him on fire with a candle. This morning, she was sentenced to life imprisonment. Her life term is to take effect from December fourteenth, 2010; the day she was remanded to the Belize Central Prison for White’s murder.

Only the victim has the right to forgive what was done to him — and Antichrist took away his ability.

The crime was so heinous it easily justified death by hanging. I hope we have heard the last of Antichrist.

  2. Rod says:

Hang her hang her high why waste so much money to keep the killer in jail just hang her

  3. Real Belizean Woman says:

Female victims of domestic violence please document the attacks against you, go to the police station and report your abusers so that if it comes to this extreme, like with Mrs Longsworth’s case, at least it will be an official and known fact that you were being abused!!!

I understand the court can not let her free however there was no need to give her life imprisonment… so many criminals (murders, rapist, drug dealers, thieves….) walk out free from court everyday however this poor lady whom was a victim for so many years is now being imprisoned…twice a victim I say…where is the justice????

  4. Uncle Benji says:

@Rod……….. Kudos to you. Well spoken!

  5. Uncle Benji says:

@Storm……….. I like your post. Hard hitting and direct. Keep hammering away.

I find this really sad that no one sees the travesty here, we are talking about someone who was abused for years and no one came to her rescue, we have no idea the kind of mental and emotional effects that may have on this person. When you feel like there is no one there to help you, you end up doing the only think you know how you finally get up and defend yourself. Was she wrong for taking his life yes!!!! But who was there to make sure he did not take hers? Abuse is never OK no matter what.

  7. Rum Drum says:

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the judge only had 2 choices once the JURY found her guilty. Choice 1: Death by hanging
    Choice 2: Life imprisonment.
So I guess she was given the better option because it is NOT LIKE the judge could say “x” amount of years for you Mam becuause I feel sorry for you. The MANDATORY sentence for murder is death by hanging OR life imprisonment. There is no in between.
If there is any one who sympathisers should be angry with it is the jury. Why are JURORS quick to find a woman guilty of murder yet cower in cowardice when they determine the fate of a gunman? That’s the question we should ask. But that question is of little or no use because thankfullly JURORS will no longer determine the fate of people accused of murder if the murder was committed after the passing of the law which removed jurors from murder trials.

  8. Belizean says:

Any physical contact pertaining to “HURTING” is unacceptable, regardless if it is pinching slapping etc…It should never ever come to that point. Much less killing your partner. If this lady go abused, this definately doesnt solve it. She made it worse for herself.

  9. hi5 says:

How come she gets life? And the thugs walking free! This is sooooo not fair.

  10. Southern says:

Quick to be found guilty and gets a life sentence while other murderers continue to walk free. I don’t condone crime but do the same to other murderers.

  11. P. Griffith says:

If the mandatory sentence for MURDER is death or life imprisonment, why are so many MURDERERS walking around? The justice system is screwed up. Did they look into the fact that this woman was abused? It seems that abuse of women and girls is ok in Belize. ABUSE IS NEVER OK. ALL THE BELIZEAN MEN SEEMED TO THINK THIS WAY!!!!! And to all the jury women on that panel where is your empathy for this woman? Sure a life was taken and there should be a penalty for it. But life, please……………………………….
