GST team busts 2 businessmen without proper cash registers

Yue Ling Huang

Two Chinese grocers were hauled before the courts today following a crackdown by the General Sales Tax Department. Forty-three year old Yue Ling Huang Wong, owner of Julie’s Supermarket located in the Belama Phase Two area of Belize City and fifty-two year old Hong Ging Huang of Seashore Store located at Mile Two on the Northern Highway. They were both charged with failure to utilize a programmable cash register and failure to issue a tax receipt. Wong and Huang pleaded not guilty and their cases were adjourned for December nineteenth. Both were released on bail following their arraignment. The GST personnel claim the two businesses did not comply with the procedure to use a cash register and the issuance of receipts to their customers. The GST believes it is short changed when businesses do not accurately report their sales.

So let me get this straight..as of now the GST has a higher conviction rate than the GSU! Caught for drugs and murder and you get off….caught without an electronic cash register and you get punished? And we wonder why this country is spiraling out of control.
I think the next the GSU goes on a raid they should take the GST team with them, it might help them secure a higher conviction rate :)

Hello anything up there “this is funny” because if you really knew your statistics you would know that for one the GSU has the highest convistion rate when compared to all other units. If I am not mistaken, their conviction rate is near the 45% which is very high compared by the conviction rate by formation. Go ahead, be my guess and ask the Police IT unit to give you their statistics on the convition rates by Formation and by Unit. Then you come back and talk to us. Otherwise don’t talk if you don’t know. This is the problem a lot of us belizeans have, we like to say things out of feelings, but we don’t say the facts. We like to criticise and predjudice the efforts of people just because we don’t like to see good work being accomplished. We like see the bad first before we see the good in others. Maybe if we all start treat each other with good compliments and praises, more good work would get done by GOB, Police, BDF, and Public Officers…. who knows.

That’s like the poor old guy who tried to take 2 blocks of cheese and got 18 mos. boy, it is harder to get away with cheese than murder. Just sayin.

ok, so going after the tax evading business like these, still doesnt make people happy. Granted they are probably selling things cheaper because of that, but the belizean business owner thats trying to compete, has an unfair disadvantage, and taking the needed revenue from the government. And whether, its not a lot or will go into someone’s pocket is not the issue here. the issue is the law.

This is hilarious. I guess these people didnt want to pay the GST officer. Its common practice in Belize for Chinese business to have an additional draw where they put money. This money doesnt go through the register, hence doesnt pay GST. All GST officers, as all belizeans, know this but nothing is ever done because these Chinese businessmen give them either groceries or cash. I personally have seen this happen on more than one instance. In Belize it has become a society that people get caught “because dem fool”, I guess he didnt want to pay someone off. What a shame, we are turning good people into criminals in order to be competitive.

I believe young gial is having an affair with a GSU guy since she is constantly defending this band of thugs who are no different from the criminals in Belize City and at the house of representatives.

damn, you see how ASIAN PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH A LOT OFF THINGS. U SEE WHAT FOR THE STUPID IMMIGRATION FRAUD IS ALLOWING THIS KINDA PEOPLE TO ENTER BZE WITH PASSPORTS & STILL GET AWAY WITH THINGS.. HUM, THATS WHY THOSE ASIAN & HINDUS PROGRESS IN BZE & AROUND THE GLOBE BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW TO GET AWAY FROM A LOT OFF THINGS.. WOWOW WHAT A DISGRACE MEN…

  10. Random Citizen says:

@rubs There’s something on the left beside “A” that says “Caps Lock.” You left it on. The only reason the Asian and Hindu are making progress in the Belize is because they work hard. From 7-1 and 3-9 they work. They find job opportunities in stores while a lot of people expect things to be handed to them. Do you think they enjoy working all week with no holiday on Sunday? You sit there and complain about immigration and crap that doesn’t even pertain nor hinder you in anyway possible. Attitudes like this are what’s wrong with some people in Belize. Have you ever stopped and looked at how some stores are? Safer behind bars of a small window of a store than to allow people to go in? The Asian’s were nice people, until they had adapted from the disrespect they receive. Please don’t come with any bull that Asian people are taking all jobs and leaving Belizean owners with no jobs. There were always jobs like that. The people were just lazy and quick to blame others for nothing. I personally have nothing against them or anyone else. They do their things, I do mine, but what i do know is that to get ahead in life it takes hard work and determination. I may sound like a highschool lecturer, but that is the sad truth of reality. Don’t be so quick to judge and think from both sides before you throw your hypocritical bs.
