Three dead in two road accidents

Three Belizeans have been killed in two separate traffic accidents. On Tuesday night in the Toledo district sixty-three year old Mona Ellis and thirty-three year old Kenon Rodney lost their lives when the vehicle in which they were passengers went out of control and rolled over on the Southern Highway. The driver, forty-three year old Kenrick Ellis, told police that while heading toward Punta Gorda near Trio Village two tires blew out simultaneously, causing the mishap. That explanation has not stopped police from serving Ellis with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

In the Orange Walk district, four year old Lovina Forbes was struck by a car while crossing the Northern Highway Tuesday evening near Carmelita Village. She later died of her injuries while receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to police, the child was hit by a Chevy Suburban driven by forty-nine year old Hung Ming Ching. Hung told investigating officers that Forbes darted out from behind a bus stopped on the side of the road and that when he tried to brake on the wet pavement he skidded out of control. Hung has been charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, and Driving Without Due Care and Attention.
