Unidentified man killed in highway accident

There was one fatality that resulted from a traffic accident. It occurred between miles fifty-nine and sixty on the Philip Goldson Highway. According to the police the deceased has not been identified and they hope the public can assist in bringing the matter to a close.

“On the sixth of October at ten-fifteen in the night, Police responded to a traffic accident at Mameyal Curve, between miles fifty-nine and sixty on the Phillip Goldson Highway.  Upon arrival, Police saw a male Hispanic person on the right side of the road apparently dead with a large cut wound across the abdomen, a severed left leg, a cut wound under the chin and lower lip.  A 1998 Dodge pickup bearing L/P OW-C-18045 was seen off the road about seventy-five feet; on the left side of the road travelling from Corozal to Orange Walk. This vehicle, a blue vehicle, was seen with a dent to the left side bonnet and damaged rear left axle as well.  Investigation revealed that about ten-fifteen p.m., on the sixth of October, one Donaldo O. Can, thirty-two year old Belizean Construction worker of Guinea Grass Village was driving the said pickup from Corozal Town to Orange walk Town and upon reaching the area mentioned, he lost control of the pickup and collided into the male person who was riding  a purple bicycle travelling in the opposite direction. The victim was then transported to the Northern Regional Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is about five feet three inches in height, was wearing three-quarter camouflage pants with a black shorts pants underneath it; a red & grey t-shirt and a white under shirt and a brown belt.  Identity of deceased is still to be established and the body now awaits a postmortem examination. Police have since detained Donaldo Can pending charges and investigation continues.”


Up to news time, the identity of the traffic accident victim is still unknown.
