Not guilty! Self defense testimony ends murder trial

Ealsine Gentle

While that family still cries foul, the verdict in today’s murder trial is not guilty. A jury of twelve persons, in the trial against thirty-two year old Ealsine Gentle, acquitted him of murder after almost five hours of deliberation. Gentle was accused of the September 2008 fatal stabbing of Orlando Myers, which occurred following a misunderstanding on a basketball court in Georgeville. According to Prosecutor, Kaysia Grant, Gentle had an altercation with some boys which led him to take an eleven inch knife and stab Myers three times to the body. The crown’s main witness, who was the intended target, also took the stand in trial. At the time of the incident, he was twenty-two years old and he testified that Myers jumped between him and the blade to protect him from Gentle’s attack. Gentle had given police a caution statement in which he said that he took the knife from Myers and stabbed him in self defense. But in his sworn testimony in court today, Gentle, who was represented by Rachel Montejo, claimed he does not know how Myers got stabbed.  Justice Denis Hanomansingh presided over the matter.

What kind of retarded court hearing is this? We have a witness, a caution statement, and maybe even the weapon and still this muderer gets a not guilty verdict???? This is why crime is high in Belize, because even with all the evidence the victim still looses and the criminal wins. The prime minister is a reputable lawyer, can he not see where the laws need to be enhanced? As an experience lawyer can he not know what laws need to be modified to make better our justice system??? Shame on you Mr. Prime Minister!!!! When will the govenment put more effort in the enhancing of the legislation so that crminals stop walking free out of court. I guess without crime and criminals Lawyers like the Prime Minister won’t have a job huh. Only reason I can come up with.

Come betta dan this Mr. Prime Minister and the rest of you.

Remember that one cannot always be Prime Minister, but will always be what he is profesionally, how do you expect him to earn money when he is booted out of office? do you think that he will be stupoid enought to curb crime when the very crimes commited gurantee that he and his family will continue to live LARGE!!!

Four years ago we buried our little cousin! This is how his memory is honored ? thanks a lot judiciary. I guess Rachael Montejo was just doing her job. Asisting a murderer to get off the charge makes her an accomplist. How can you sleep at night? Truth be told at the beginning of the morning my little cousin was alive by d end of the night he was cold n lifeless. Luckily our grandma thought us the Lord’s way n Edison, Rachael n even those who hid the murder weapon. You will have your day in the highest court. Judged by Jehovah but on earth we will love you d way the Lord thought us.
