Shooting victim in induced coma

Isaiah Williams

Isaiah Williams remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. in an induced coma. He is the thirty-five year old who was shot four times on Thursday night as he stood outside his parents’ gate on Banak Street. On Friday we spoke with Rosalie Williams, Isaiah’s wife, who told us that she believed her husband, was injured because he had assisted a close family member to move from an abusive home, not long ago. Well, Isaiah’s troubles don’t end there; in a coma, he was sent a dismissal letter from his CYDP job.

“My husband is still in the coma that they put him in and slowly he is responding to coming out of it; not fully as yet but I have faith that he will come out successfully.”

Andrea Polanco

“Alright, suh I know now that he has been responding very slowly in terms of his recovery process at the K.H.M.H.; have the doctors communicated to you what are his chances of survival. Is it looking good for him?”

“The doctor, this morning they gave me a lot of hope because he said they can see him progressing and that he is showing signs that he is fighting. They have great hope for him. Today I spoke with the doctor and he filled out the form because I told him he was working so I took the forms at his work.”

Andrea Polanco

“His work is the CYDP?”

Rosalie Williams

“Yes, the CYDP. He was under the poverty alleviation program.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay. How long has he been working there?”

Rosalie Williams

“He has been working there over two years and when I went there the secretary told me; she told me wait and got on the phone and spoke with somebody, and she came back and told me she cannot fill out this. So I asked her why and she said because my husband was terminated because my husband got shot up Thursday night and the last day personally knew she worked was Thursday. He is in that coma from then up to now and I asked how can he be terminated? She said it was already something in progress or whatever.”

Andrea Polanco

“Now, what do you think of that move by the CYDP, do you think it is unfair to your husband?”

Rosalie Williams

“Well, I am not blaming them in particular but I think it was unfair how this happened because I believe that through all those two years that he has been paying social, he deserve to collect his benefits because dah nuh like ih nuh need it.”

Williams says that she was informed that Isaiah was one of the two hundred employees terminated in the “downscaling” of the south-side projects.
