Miss World Belize Chantae Guy is big in China

Belize’s Chantae Guy is making a strong impression in China as she prepares to vie for the Miss World 2012 crown in Mongolia on Saturday. Over the last four weeks, the twenty year old Miss World Belize participated in a number of preliminary challenges called fast track events; she struck it big when she placed in the final ten for the Top Model Competition. As a result of placing in the top ten, Guy did a photo shoot with Vogue Magazine which will be featured in the next issue. Unlike the other contestants, Guy doesn’t have a chaperone and she was only asked days before her solo departure to represent Belize. News Five spoke with both Chantae and her mother, Anna Guy, via phone.

“Well, coming into China, I got a short term notice that I would be entering this pageant and I was kinda skeptical because it is thousands of miles away and I’m alone. There’s also the language barrier and travelling alone I had so many inquiries, but when I arrived at the airport I met other contestants who told me the same thing so I was kind of relieved that it wasn’t only me. Getting here, the organization was very nice, they treated us well and they had everything organized for us. We travelled all over China, sightseeing and we went to the desert which was my best experience so far; it was amazing seeing the sunset and sunrise there—it was amazing. I will never forget that. Right now we are just working for the final night and we will see how that happens nuh. I am very excited.”

“So I know from since you’ve been in China you’ve been participating in a number of preliminary competitions, some mini competitions within the Miss World. What have your experiences been like in those, I know that you placed in the top ten for the Miss Top Model Competition?”

Via Phone: Chantae Guy

“Yeah we had approximately five different preliminary competitions. I didn’t place in any except top model; but I tried my best and that’s what counts. I know I did good in almost all of them and I wasn’t in the bottom still. They can’t choose all of us, it is a hundred and eighteen girls and they only chose about twenty and some forty for other competitions. For the top model competition, they chose forty-five out of a hundred and eighteen and I was one. They had a fashion show which was amazing like a real top notch fashion show. I was very excited about that. It is for 1346 Cashmere, which is one of the best cashmere brands in China and the world. So it was really classy and fashionable. I was one of the ten finalists so that was very exciting for Belizeans and for me because fashion shows and modeling. It is good to know that I was one of the top out of a hundred and eighteen girls; that is an amazing feeling.”

Andrea Polanco

“So I know also a part of that you got the opportunity to do a photo-shoot for Vogue Magazine?”

Via Phone: Chantae Guy

“Yes, Vogue Magazine. It is like one of the biggest magazines in the world and I think if I’m not mistaken probably one of the first Belizeans to be in Vogue so that is a big deal.”

Andrea Polanco

“Alright, so for the next few days leading up to the pageant, just run through with us what all you’ll be doing?”

Via Phone: Chantae Guy

“We have basically every day rehearsals on stage and in the night time we have a couple dinners. Last night we had the big charity dinner, one of the biggest events here and we were asked to bring an auction gift from our country and they were auctioned off last night and we raised over a million RBN which is Chinese money. So that is good to know that we can do something for charity and help out the children of China.”

Andrea Polanco

“Chantae, here home many people are rooting for you and cheering you on; what message would you like to leave for the Belizean public and the country of Belize?”

Via Phone: Chantae Guy

“I would like to say thanks to God because without him I wouldn’t be here. Thanks to all the people back in Belize because I need it. I am so many miles away from home and I need any helping hand that I can get even if it’s a word of support, that’s great; motivation is key.”

“Well, the Miss World Top Model is the biggest event leading up to Miss World Pageant which is Saturday August eighteenth and this is why the organizers leave that for the last. This really means a lot not just for Chantae but for Belize because it immediately puts Belize in the spot light. On the day of the pageant Belize will be called on stage; all ten finalists for that Top Model and the winner will be chosen at the pageant. This is great achievement for her and her country Belize so we are very proud of her for what she is doing over there.  Well, actually we’re asking for the public’s help in more ways than one. First of all, a part of the competition is also a multi-media award and that will assist her in even going into the finals at the pageant. To get her into the multimedia award, her supporters need to go online to Miss World Belize 2012 to like that page and you comment and share photos. All that interaction on the page going o give her points to go closer to win that multi-media awards.”

There is also the People’s Choice Award. You can vote for Chantae Guy once per day at Note, that there was an error and Guy wasn’t listed with other contestants according to her region; she is at the bottom of the page so you will need to scroll below the region of South America.  Also if you’d like to assist Miss World Belize Chantae Guy with her journey to the Miss World crown, you can make financial contributions at FCIB FirstCaribbean International Bank Account Number 3-6-6-3-9-2-8. The pageant will air on E! and Channel Five on Saturday morning. Due to the time difference of fourteen hours, it will be broadcasted live at around six a.m., but Channel Five will also rebroadcast the pageant after Saturday night’s Mega Bingo draw.

She’s gorgeous. She’s stunning. And, I can understand why she might’ve done so well in Top Model but not the others … especially after I watched her video interview.

Hopefully physical beauty is what really counts in this pageant!

It is an honor for Belizeans to be competing in the world with little support they get from GOVERNMENT, I meant to say NONE. It is people like you who believe in yourself and have the desire to EXCEL, that will make it to the top.

Real is telling the truth. Shes attractive, but her english is horrible. And she have a attitude problem… her attitude stinks…. all i say is for her to work on her english and attitude! And belize might stand a chance…

  10. Martinez says:

  11. Seletar says:

Rose, your criticism is on point, but she is the product of our schools and her parents. Maybe one or both of them let her down. But if she works on those things, she can improve her future regardless how this pageant goes.

  12. Sandra says:

She is very beautiful and this pageant doesnt only makes her look good but it also puts Belize on the map. We need not post our nasty comments when she represents Belize she represents us all for once in your lives stop bringing down your own people and support and if you cant say something positive then dont say anything at all. That is why here in Belize we cant get ahead because we love to bring each other down like the crabs in a bucket. Get off of it people! show your positive support.

  13. sammy says:

God… this country is so unique!!! I have been to several countries but this is the first one where I see people worry much more about DESTROYING rather than on BUILDING… it’s such a pitty. Over 25% of the blogs posted are either belittleing or defending Ms. Belize. Why don’t you guys just support your co-national? If you don’t have anything GOOD to say… just don’t say ANYTHING.

  16. The Alchimist says:

God… I have been to several countries and this is the first one where I see so many people go against their own… and that’s because we are talking about a Beauty Queen!!! It’s amazing to see how over 25% of the blogs in this website are dedicated either to insulting or, in a certain way, defending Ms. Belize. Wow!!! Instead of supporting their co-national some people spend their time belittling someone who should be highly regarded for the mere fact that she is representing her country abroad. If you don’t have anything POSITIVE to say… just don’t say ANYTHING!!!
