B.D.F. soldier detained for handling stolen goods

Ernel Dominguez

A high ranking Belize Defense Force soldier was detained on Tuesday in Punta Gorda. The arrest went under the radar because the attention was focused on two other law enforcement officers—PCs Modesto Cucul and Federico Tush who were being arraigned in Court for murder. The B.D.F. Captain Ian Cuno of a regular battalion; was wanted in San Ignacio for handling stolen goods after he was allegedly caught with Smith and Wesson firearm that had been reported stolen. According to Officer in Charge of Punta Gorda Police, Inspector Ernel Dominguez, Cuno was detained by the department on the strength of a warrant just before midday on Tuesday. Inspector Dominguez says Cuno did not resist arrest and has since been transported to San Ignacio where the offence allegedly took place.

“On the strength of a warrant in the first instance yesterday’s date, Punta Gorda police sometime before midday were able to apprehend one Ian Cuno, who was known to be a member of the Belize Defense Force—his rank status I am not certain of that but I am certain that the name of the person was Ian Cuno.”

“So what is it that he was wanted for? I believe that it was in San Ignacio that he was wanted.”

Via Phone: Insp. Ernel Dominguez

“Yes. There was a warranted in the first instance for his arrest for handling stolen goods—something to that effect.”

Duane Moody

“I know that you said that it was for stolen goods; in what respect?”

Via Phone: Insp. Ernel Dominguez

“Well not really. I think it had something to do with a firearm; something to that effect.”

Duane Moody

“How is it that Punta Gorda Police were able to detain this guy?”

Via Phone: Insp. Ernel Dominguez

“The simply reason why we were able to do this was that at the time he was wanted we got the information that he is somewhere in the Toledo District. We had done our investigation and we later found him to be in the Toledo District.”

If you’re handling stolen goods that happen to be a firearm, you are obviously possessing an unlicensed firearm. That’s a mandatory prison crime.

It’s so sad that the tiny Jewel has more than its share of criminals in public office. No special mercy for him, he betrayed the public trust.

we need to look at that officer in charge in PG too, he sent a few officers to san Antonio village to chancy a poor lady of 2300 dollars, something which is a civil matter is not in his jurisdiction. Please investigate aboout it. It took place about a month back. He is outright corrupt.
