4 women charged for street robbery

Shari Bent

Before you believe that crime lends itself only to males, think again. A Belize City resident, Leandria Ebanks was attacked and robbed on Saturday and the bandits were four women. Police have since arrested twenty year old De Andre Bell, eighteen year old Shari Bent, eighteen year old Tamara Arnold, and nineteen year old Robin Harris, who were jointly charged with theft and common-assault. They initially appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer on Monday and pleaded guilty. Senior Magistrate Frazer appeared to be annoyed by the attitude of the women and the fact that they showed no remorse for their actions. So Frazer had them remanded to the Central Prison for two nights.

They returned to court on Wednesday for sentencing and were more than remorseful, saying that they experienced the worst two nights of their lives at the Kolbe run institution. Having learned their lesson, Bent, Arnold and Harris were give suspended sentences of three months each, which means that for that time, they better not get arrested, charged or convicted of any other criminal offenses. Bell was also given a one year suspended sentence. All four must also enroll in an Apprenticeship Program run by Dianne Finnegan, for the duration of their sentence. According to Ebanks, Bent was the first to approach her and pulled a bag from her shoulder, then her friends joined in the attack.  She says that it wasn’t until she got on a bus after the confrontation that she realized five hundred dollars were missing from her purse.  Bent was ordered to repay the cash by September thirtieth.

  1. Storm says:

The sentence was entirely too lenient. Robbers need to go to prison, period. Their genitals are not a defence.

Apparently the court does not support equal rights for women. There are two sides to every coin.

Hope the idiots will learn something useful in that programmed.

I totally agree with you Storm. we are imitating America with being lenient. That is why Belize has gone down the tubes. Why don’t we do like they did in Singapore? Remember the American kid that was caned for graffiting?

  4. Seletar says:

Caning or other physical punishment that doesn’t permanently disable is OK by me.

I was paddled plenty when I was growing up, and sometimes it helped correct my behaviour.

  5. Simone says:

Hooligans and mampies-let them take their punishment

Singapore is a smaller country than Belize, they sure have things under control and have more diverse people than Belize. Yes, too much BET …and they are behaving just like the tugs they see ! what is happening in Belize, is like what is happening in the large cities in the states, California, New York and Chicago, gangs, drugs, killing and robberies…
