Cayo and Guatemala ‘Selectaz’ find friendship in DJ Competition

George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot

The Belize Guatemala Referendum is slated for October 2013.  But there is a battle brewing between nationals of both countries that actually has more to do with peace than war. So if you’re heading west this weekend, Meluchi’s in San Ignacio is the place to be for a showdown between Belizean and Guatemalan DJs on Saturday night. After defeating the best Disk Jockeys across the border, Meluchi’s House DJ, George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot, has invited the Guatemalan “selectas” to compete for a Belizean audience.  He was in the city today and stopped by News Five studios to promote the event.

“It’s a DJ battle with three DJ’s from Flores Petén and they’re the best DJs in Petén and you know I’m like the number one DJ in Cayo so I went over there and I won the competition and so I’m returning the favor and inviting them to Belize. So it’s gonna be Saturday at Meluchi’s and big up Meluchi’s cause they’re my sponsors and I’m the house DJ there as well.”

“So this competition on Saturday, what can people expect?”

George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot

“Well, a lot of music. You know each DJ has their genre which they specialize in. You know you have the electronic house music, which is really popular right now, then you have the Latin and the dancehall, you know it’s a little bit of everything.”

Delahnie Bain

“And what really are you looking for in this competition?”

George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot

“Well, just create a working relationship between Belize and Guatemala. You know there are a lot of other DJs in Belize doing it big, big up Linda Blease. And it’s just a—I’d just like people to come out and experience a night of international DJ-ing at a high standard.”

Delahnie Bain

“So, do you go over to Guatemala to DJ often?”

George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot

“Yeah pretty much. It depends because I get booked a lot, my bookings they always add up. I go to Puerto Barrios, Livingston, and Flores Petén a lot pretty much.”

“And you we’re mentioning that you also promote Belizean music when you go over there?”

George “Mistah Geeh” Loskot

“Yes, I promote Nello Player, Jenko, Tanya Carter, Melonie Gillett; they really love the music and especially Punta, Supa G, New Rebels, Sweet Pain; they love it over there.”

The competition runs from ten p.m. to three a.m. at Meluchi’s in San Ignacio.
