P.M. explains how crown land came into dispute

Dean Barrow

While Prime Minister Barrow says that More Tomorrow villagers will get some of the lands they claim they have been developing, both parties will be accommodated. But the burning question of how a publicly owned land ended up in the hands of a private owner is what everyone has been asking. Well, here’s how Prime Minister Barrow explains it. He says it is an old issue that dates back to when the land was first publicly acquired and got carried over into the current administration.

Dean Barrow

“Well no, apparently, this acquisition was done in the waning days of the Esquivel and it seems that the incoming administration was not aware that the acquisition had taken place. When after ten years there was a change of government, we discovered—that is the new U.D.P. administration—discovered that Dito Juan had in fact done the acquisition; in the mean time the previous owners who thought they continued in ownership had sold the seven hundred acres to this fellow. The lands registry accepted the transfer and issued a new title. At that juncture we said listen, if we try to stand firm on the Dito Juan acquisition of the people and that is for the entire seven thousand acres. So we said you know you can have back your stuff; you make no claim and we will just give it back to you. But that was done of course without a carve out for the people who had at the mean time been occupying the various individual parcels. So we have to remedy that. It is no doubt that the late Pino Cawich had given the villagers the assurance that in fact they would get their title—not being aware obviously at the time that the acquisition..well I don’t know; I guess it is hard for me to speak to what have you, but my sense is that he had given assurances being unaware of the acquisition and thinking at the time that the land still belonged to the Taiwanese but saying we wah do something about it. In our term, for sure, Ramon Witz and people like that encouraged the More Tomorrow villagers to feel that again the government will somehow rectify this so you will end up with title to your parcels. There is at the very least an oral and political imperative to sort it out and sort it out we will; though I insist, it clearly will not be to the complete satisfaction of all concerned.”

Jose Sanchez

“Will it then be only the acreage that they do presently occupy and not the full seven hundred and add that they thought it would be?”

Dean Barrow

“Right. It cannot be because they are not occupying the seven hundred acres. In very many acres, people say well I done stake out a twenty acres. Yes, but you are only cultivating five. We will have to go with what it is that you are actually cultivating because it will cost us.”

What a pile of crock this PM is trying to sell the people. I wonder how long it took him to conjure up the crop he is selling to the people. Where did the money received for the sale go. Belizeans is you have not yet noticed the average citizen is becoming less visible in your own country. The foreigners are taking you over. Unless you rise up and fight you will become like the fight for land like that in Israel. Wake up people and fight for your rights and country and your very survival.

Elementary stuff again my Belizean brothers and sisters. There is such a thing that is called “Carry Forward”. Meaning, any other Administration should have been able to “Carry Forward” all transactions at any given time as required for culmination from their “Index Files”. Mr. Prime Minister, You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people some of the time”. Go ahead and continue embarrassing yourself and the party Senor. Where is the Minister you appointed for this Ministry to explain his position to this and other descrepancies within his Ministry?. You are a reflection of the people you appointed, who are so disappointing. Wih cud si betta now, tank God!!
