‘Faada’ Henry says Traffic Department wrongfully took his taxi plates

Philip ‘Faada’ Henry is a self-styled philanthropist, politician, and entrepreneur. Henry came to fame as a Belize City Council employee who spoke proudly of former Mayor Zenaida Moya while she was at her lowest and who regularly gave unauthorized interviews about the work he did for the council, including the removal of derelict vehicles from the street. Henry recently unsuccessfully ran as a candidate in the municipal elections but he nouveau politician reinvented himself once more as a taxi driver; that is until he says the traffic department stole his license plates.

Philip ‘Faada’ Henry, says City Hall took his license plates

“I have bought a brand new car and I decided to do taxi to help senior citizens who are left in the streets and being treated bad by other taxi drivers. So I went to the traffic department and applied for my taxi license and it was approved by the councilor who is in charge of the traffic department; Michael Theus and I consider him one of the best councilors at the City Council—an honest guy. I think at this time, the traffic department needs revenues; they need money; so what they are doing si the right thing to approved license of taxi to people who need to eat out here.”

“But this honest guy, his traffic department has upset you. What have they done?”

Philip ‘Faada’ Henry

“Well I thought they saw my name, Phillip Henry—you know that I was a member of the City Council—and I was told that I have to come back in and give in my taxi license plate when I paid all my money to the insurance company to get my taxi insurance and to get my license plate which is taxi. I paid the traffic department for that; it was approved by Mr. Theus and it went downstairs and it was also approved by Mister Kevaughn Jenkins and they have X amount of people who has taxi license plate also in the seventy-two series. This morning when I was doing a taxi run, I had about five people in my car and two cycles decided that they wanted to escort me like I was the Prince of Belize taxi. They said they were going to escort me to the traffic department; which they did. And when I get over there, I was asked to go up stairs and speak to Mr. Jenkins. After I spoke with Mister Jenkins and I came back downstairs, my license plates were screwed off my vehicle. So I was looking all around for my license plate—I thought that somebody just robbed my vehicle. To see that it was the department; they cannot come out in the street and screw off your license plate and ask to bring in your registration so that they can give you a private license plate. Are they going to give me back my money that I went in there and paid for my taxi license? No! They already told me that they are not going to give back, but they are going to give me two white license plates. This is ridiculous Jose. As you can see in the front of my vehicle, there is no license plates; I am on halt—cannot do anything at this time, but go back to the traffic department for two license plates. I am not going to say that Mr. Theus is doing wrong there because Mr. Theus is one of the best councilor for the traffic department to put there at traffic because of the problems in the past with things at the traffic departments when I was there.”

“But it is still that traffic department that took away your plates.”

Philip ‘Faada’ Henry

“Yes that’s what I am saying and at this time, do you believe they took away my license plates and I am doing a safety school program—a Do the Rait Thing Pedestrian Crossing on behalf of that traffic department?”

Jose Sanchez

“So why will they do that?”

Philip ‘Faada’ Henry

“It is a personal beef.”

‘Faada’ alleges that old beef is the reason why he can no longer work as a cab driver. According to sources, councilor Michael Theus is no longer in charge of the Traffic Department.  The reasons are allegedly because of the issuance of taxi licenses when there should have been a moratorium.
