Viewers believe more jobs losses in the year ahead

It was announced in the Prime Minister’s press conference last week that the national budget is expected to have a major deficit and cutbacks will be necessary. That was the basis for last week’s question to viewers: Do you expect more job losses in the year ahead given the grim economic outlook? Eighty-two percent of voters on our e-poll answered yes while only eighteen percent said no. Turning to tonight’s question: Do you believe that the penalty for murder convictions should be death by hanging or life in prison? Send your comments and responses using your SMART phones to 8686 or post your vote on our e-poll at You can also send an email with your comments to

Hanging is inhumane. The “short drop with the quick stop” some times does not work and then has to be repeated. I believe in capital punishment, we need it, but I do not believe in cruel, public executions. No matter how horrible the crime we should never stoop to their level. I support lethal injection, quick, cheap, 100% done.

  2. Storm says:

Definatly, HANG THEM BY THE NECK UNTIL DEAD! And do it publicly and quickly [after a fair and impartial conviction, of course].

We must withdraw from the Caribbean Court of Justice to regain sovereignty over how we punish criminals.

In addition to the death penalty for murder [and I would add child molestation and attempted murder], I support a “three strikes law” like those that have been so successful at reducing crime in the States. Second conviction for a serious or violent offence will carry DOUBLE the term in prison of a first offense. For a third serious crime — LIFE IN PRISON.

  3. Eye in the Sky says:

I believe in hanging. It should be done publicly like the old times. When children see this they will grow up and never want to break the law. There should be public flogging for littering and chop off the hands of a thief.
It is drastic but it helps.
Look at Singapore it is one of the cleanest and safest places on earth due to their strict laws.
It human rights from the USA or England complains then give the criminals a 1 way ticket to that country. And if they are deported send then back to the USA or England. They love criminals so much let them keep them.

  4. Seletar says:

A question for x: what was humane about the way Jasmin’s life was snuffed out?

I don’t care about the killer — kill him the surest, quickest, cheapest way. The sooner the better.

Murderers forfeit all their human rights.

  5. nick parker says:

yes they should hang the one that attempt muder , why ??? because if they do not taste the death they would not know what death means to them… they need to taste the death. hanging them or electricute them is the best way to known . and shoot them on the mother !@#$%^ head. because too many death in every year and its not droping at all. worst the muder person always get away by paying money to the police officers or goverment person. that is just stupid , and if it is that why they should have police in the first place.

  6. Belizean Pride says:

even the question is not applied correct it should have been posted as “when can we start hanging in Belize” so we can have a referendum to vote as who accepts this death hanging or lethal injection.
