Flooding in Ladyville and Lord’s Bank

In the Belize District, in the first week of June, days of nonstop rains caused flooding in several parts of the country including the River Valley, where farmers lost their crops and Belize Rural Central, where a Ladyville School had to cancel classes for two days. Well today, Our Lady of the Way R.C School was closed once again as the yard was flooded by the weekend rain. Parts of the Northern Highway were also inundated, but the waters have mostly receded off the road. In Lords Bank, however, several streets and yards are still flooded and residents are forced to wade through the unsanitary waters. Residents have blamed the flooding on increased development and a lack of proper drainage in the area. Well, in Ladyville today, a backhoe was being used to clear the drains along the highway, which could alleviate the flooding problem as the rainy season continues.
