Police nabs Cayo robbery suspects

Chester Williams

San Ignacio, in addition to being a tourist destination, appears to also be attracting criminals. Senior Superintendent Chester Williams told News Five that police and community cooperation has led to the quick detention of suspects and the recovery of items from a recent robbery of a local Cayo business.

Via Phone:  Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C., San Ignacio Police

“On Friday sometime around ten a.m., police received information about a robbery at a Chinese Store in San Ignacio Town. Subsequently, police responded to this information and with the assistance of the public the police were able to apprehend one William Ralda, twenty years of a Guatemalan address and one Jian Espat, also twenty years, a Belizean of Santa Elena Town. These two persons have since been arrested and charged for robbery. All the items stolen in this robbery—which includes a laptop computer, asserted phone cards and just over four hundred dollars in cash—were recovered from a resident of San Ignacio Town. Our investigation has revealed so far that both Jian and William had given these items to Quiroz to secure for them as they knew they were being pursued by police in relation to this crime. Mister Jian Espat was an employee of the Chinese man and had just quit working that same day of the robbery. So I must give thanks to all the members of the public who called us on that day, gave us information so that we were able to track these persons down to the exact locations where they were and it subsequently resulted into the recovery of all the items stolen. It goes to show the level of commitment the community has in assisting the police.”

Williams says that both suspects have been remanded to prison.

A good example of the public collaborating to fight crime.

We need more of this, organised in every community. Hundreds of pairs of eyes, watching the known criminals and strangers in a neighbourhood, can take a big bite out of crime.

  2. Truth says:

Keep granting and allowing immigrants to easily enter Belize. Every single government unit is slacking off and because of incompetent individuals in power this will never change and will only continue to get worse.

Immigration do your job.!!!!! Police officers stop asking for bribery and DO what you are hired to do. Your are getting paid to provide a service so do deliver it.. Just remember you are human too and it can happen to you too.. So DO your JOB.

  3. BMNJ says:

Job well done by the front line policemen and the community! Let’s see how well the Judiciary System is going to perform because I know it sucks especially when it comes to violent crimes and murder cases.

  4. now i see says:

  6. Relieved says:

It’s about time Ralda got locked up he and his family having been terrorizing San Ignacio & Santa Elena for quite sometime. If the justice system were smart they would never let this useless waste of a human life roam the streets of any COUNTRY ever again. Jail is actually too comfy a place for a piece of crap like him. All these disrespectful, uneducated spoiled brats need to be put in a box taken out to sea and sink it!!!!! But then in turn pollute our beautiful waters. Disgusted by the system they let him loose the first time! A good beating in front of all his victims is what the judge should first of all have in order!

  8. JahKid says:

Thanks to Cayo people, Belize City people you need to act and stop hiding criminals in your backyards.

  9. Ghian's Sister says:

I am Ghian Espat’s eldest sister. Although I am very much appalled myself at the crime he has committed’ in NO way do I agree to the comments some fellow Belizeans have been posting. My reasons are as follow- My little brother was charged for THEFT/ROBBERY not MURDER! Let’s be clear on that. Also this is his FIRST offense. It has obviously landed him behind bars. He has done the crime and he will serve the time and FORTUNATELY he was caught and justice can be served! There are FAR WORST criminals out there that commit heinous crimes on the daily and allowed to get away with it and nothing is done! MURDERERS, RAPISTS, CHILD ABUSERS, etc.. Now to the ignorant people who posted below- and I say this with much respect.. Think before You speak! Get your information clear.. go back and re-read what he has been charged with.. now tell me.. where do you come up with the conclusion that he is unworthy of life and that he should be “SHOT” or “PUT IN A BOX AND TAKEN OUT TO SEA AND SINK IT”.. be aware of this much. If such is your mentality that you can so much SPEAK of such outrageousness then believe me when I say this that if makes YOU NO BETTER than my little brother. You want a life taken away.. you want to PLAY GOD and decide to who is worthy of life and who isn’t, then be my guest. But while you are at it, Wake up and realize that ROBBERY is being committed day by day right infront of your own eyes not just by my little brother but by the same LEADERS who govern our country and there is nothing that can be done about it! But this is the same people who we look up to, to provide for our country and to protect us. Think again people and this time speak wisely. My little brother is well on his way to paying for what he did. But an Eye for an Eye isn’t the right way out. I hope in my heart that this experience will make him shaken up and realize that stealing from his own kind is not the way out. The Law will punish him now.. and OUR CREATOR will too at his own time in HIS OWN WAY!
