B.N.T.U. also fed up about crime

George Frazer

There is another worry for the B.N.T.U., which is over crime; a huge challenge for the government. Describing Belize as a country in crisis, the B.N.T.U. says teachers and students have been victims of violent crimes, including the murders of Jasmine Lowe, Daniel Matura and teacher, Marco Thompson.

George Frazer, General Secretary, B.N.T.U.

“Like other organizations in the society and of course, it affects us as citizens and also as a union; our members we are concerned about the crime situation. The recent escalation over the last three months; people are living in fear—even in your own homes you are not safe. Even in our schools; there have been some schools in Belize City and other parts where teachers have been attacked—some by students. There are elements of gangs in some of our schools; even our primary schools and our teachers don’t feel safe. We have to do something and we are limited as a poor country with resources.”

Frazer says that the union is willing to sit down with government and social partners to address the serious crime situation and related socio-economic issues.

  1. I Belize it says:

How can they be fed up with crime?

Until every GOB Employee is a life time member of the Union of Gangsters, CripBloodMara Brotherhood of Pumas, not enough can be possibly stolen, so many deserving criminals willing to kill their bothers and mothers go hungry this very moment, waiting.

These obese anti criminal organizations are keeping the De Jewel from being #1 in world homicides. Have they no national pride?

  2. Maria Marshall says:

Belize is certainly a country in crisis and my heart goes out to those trying to put things right such as Mr. George Frazer but things have gone too far down the line and he will need a strong force behind him such as schools, other organisations and especially parents.
    Good luck.

  3. Elgin Martinez says:

Close all Schools in the Country for a day and hold a vigil infront of the PM’s residence.

  4. Rod says:

We need to get rid of this no good pm and gov. That’s what we can do resign barrow you are a total failure at your job resign do the people of Belize a favor you have taken enough .

  5. Sasha says:

Agree with Rod Barrow needs to resign or better yet Escorted out of the office and locked up for beng an accomplice to all the crimes taking place.

  6. A Jew says:

Mr. Frazer does not really look fed up about the crime violence, he looks pretty calm to me. He made a lot of noise in Belmopan at the previous Government, now they are quite calm and quiet. Come on Mr. Frazer what happen to all that energy!? Call the unions together and lets do something to send a message to GOB that we are tired of the crime situation.

  7. Ideas?? says:

@ Rod, I’m a young person. How can we force the GOB to make a change? We want them out but there are people like me who don’t know how or where to start.

  8. Ideas?? says:

    Oh, and then what next?

  9. Mike says:

Ideas, The UDP Leadership can change the Prime Minister. They owe it to all Belizeans to give us a better Prime Minister.

If they refuse to change the Prime Minister, the PUP will win by a landslide next elections. And it will be the UDP’s fault.

  10. Me says:

barrow is only a pride to his gangs . as he himself has declared openly to be a gang leader, by giving them salaries for free.

  11. Rod says:

Ideas the best ways to do something is for you to go to all the business leaders where you live and talk to them have every business where you live close down for a week this is not easy to do but for the sake of young people like you who deserve a better life and a decent life sometimes in life you have to sacrifice to bring changes and the only way we will change this gov. Is by having all the business leaders in the country shut down so this is the best avenue you have to bring about change.

  12. Blzean buay says:

Mr. Frazer can’t serve two GODS……….He has to set his mind on what he wants to serve… either his political party or the union……

  13. Ideas says:

    Thanks Rod and Mike!!
