Immigration Scandal again: Chinese obtain Belmopan visas before they reach Belize

On Wednesday afternoon an AeroCaribe flight from Havana, Cuba arrived at the PGIA. Amongst the passengers was a group of sixteen Chinese nationals who raised suspicions. They all received visas to visit Belize even after the issuance of Belizeans visas were banned at the Embassy in Cuba in 2010 because of the large amount of Asians who either disappeared or melted into the population after arriving in the Jewel on three month visas. The group of Chinese Nationals, many of whom listed their professions as waiters and cooks, made the trip from Guang Zhou, China with a connection through Europe where they boarded another flight to Cuba then onto Belize. We went through copies of the visas and found the following. Twenty-four year Chinese waiter Xia Qui was granted a visa on June first. And guess what? A Belmopan stamp was already in Qui’s passport before he arrived in Belize. Eleven of the sixteen got to Belize with the Belmopan visas stamped in their passports. Twenty-eight year old Jing Ping Zhang, thirty-four year old Ming Qiang Guan, twenty-one  year old Weihang Chen, all waiters, were issued visas in May at the Immigration Department in Belmopan. There is also the instance of a sixteen year old minor Jia Rong Zhu, whose occupation is listed as a cook. According to regulations, where there is no Belize Embassy nearby, potential visitors to Belize must apply and be vetted at the nearest British Consulate. So, the remaining five Chinese nationals were vetted and received their visas via a British consulate in Guang Zhou, China. The details of the visa trail will be available on News Five’s website.

  2. Vuk says:

The time has come for the GOB to carry out thorough and long-lasting immigration reform. Everything that both major political parties have done since independence have been nothing other than applying bandages and duct tape on a process that’s fundamentally broken and this development is demonstrative of this fact.

  3. Belice ES Nuestro says:

  4. Rod says:

The corruption is so openly done now they don’t care who knows and it starts from the top corruption is the life lock of this administration.

  5. Storm says:

I’m glad they caught these people, and I hope they are prosecuted fully.

BUT I WOULD GIVE IMMUNITY TO ONE OF THEM, THE ONE WHO TOLD ME EVERYTHING ABOUT WHO IS SELLING OUR TRAVEL STAMPS AND CORRUPTING OUR BORDER. And whoever is doing it, just be tossed in our dungeon for a long, long time.

Why cannot GOB find honest people to handle passports and visas? Is it part of the gang truce hiring program?

  6. Me says:

Barrow you have flooded our country with this people. Now this chinese in less than 5 years have almost all control of groceries in belize (all over the country). and you no finish yet, you are fool in “control”. You only control your own personal business.

  7. BMNJ says:

Don’t blame the Chinese for ‘buying’ their way into this country. Blame the corrupt immigration officers for their greed and the love of money. Well, look at it this way: the Chinese have the money to buy and those immigration officers have the service to sell (for their own personal gains).

  8. leon leon says:

Shame, shame, shame again! The visas had to be stamped in the passports by someone. Maybe it’s time we have to think deeper now. What about a creative person (s) with a “fake” stamp? All you smart guys, what do you think about that?
Our little Belize is saturated with immigrants. The Chinese will find a way to get into our country. They have their Belizean Association that looks after their “own people”. All the Chinese that come to Belize,99% of the time, each one will start a business. The typical Belizean cannot get a loan to start a business. The Chinese have the $$$$ and they help their Chinese people to “get a jump start”, and they suck the pennies from the poor people of Belize. Every corner now you can find Chinese fry chicken and convenient stores. Look to see and record the stats…how many will start a business, how many will build a house and buy land, how many will send their kids to the best schools, and it goes on and on. Soon there will be more Chinese owned businesses than residential homes.
Not only one person is aware of what is happening because how can it be just a one man’s operation involved with these visas? Belizeans need to stand up and start making noise. As a people we need to know who is responsible for allowing this to CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. This shows no respect for the Belizean people nor for the country of Belize. After all, are we saying that the Chinese are so smart that they can come into little Belize because our government is not capable of “putting a stop to this illegal activity?
I often read comments and we have some intelligent people and of course those who will “write and then they will think” – best way to put it. Let us hear what you guys think about the opportunity our struggling native Belizeans have in trying to own a business.

  9. End Of Days says:

I feel sorry for the hard working, law abiding Belizeans. Because, they really do not have a say about who will run their country (crooks). In Belize it is the poor, desperate, dumb Belizeans (and aliens) who will sell their vote for a buck, and this set far outnumber the former.

  10. Orangewalkenio says:

That is going for a long time…with both immigration and customs. We harass our small people. Easy to check…see the material assets that both immigration and customs(even more) possess. At their government salaries they cant afford those fancy rides and houses…this is easy to crack but the corruption is so engrained that to crack it…you will need to remove a whole lot of people. however, our leaders dont have the balls to do it….

  11. vicky says:

GOB brings all types of cats and dogs to our counrty. First they were people from Salvador then Cubans and then Africans so call doctors and nurses with their false documents cannot even insert an I.V. now Chinese. What the Hell is wrong with GOB? Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!! only in Belize they can do that without getting caught.

  12. Storm says:

End of Days: Actually, we DO have a say about who runs our country — the vote. And it seems in every election, we put the gun to our own heads and pull the trigger, electing and re-electing criminals, thieves, and other assorted rascals WHO HAVE NO TRACK RECORD OF PUBLIC SERVICE OR ACCOMPLISHMENT BEFORE THEY GET ELECTED.

WE HAVE CONDEMNED OUR OWN CHILDREN TO POVERTY AND VICTIMIZATION BY SELLING VOTES FOR EMPTY PROMISES AND 30 PIECES OF SILVER THAT THE 2 MAJOR PARTIES ALWAYS THROW IN THE STREETS BEFORE ELECTIONS.

Sadly, we all know better, too. Neither UDP nor PUP can steer the country in a right direction, because they are institutionally committed to looting whatever is not nailed down in the Jewel.

  13. Jaso Sued says:

I totally agree with Leon, Chinese own Restaurants, Stores, and are about to own all the hotels too.
But guest what Chinese get all of this done because of politic influence, and immigrations officer are too greedy.

  14. Eye in the Sky says:

Lots of Fry Chicken for Belize to eat with all these cooks.
