7th Annual Belize Film Festival
The seventh annual Belize International Film Festival is set to open with a bang in the next few weeks. For the first time, a locally produced film, ‘2012 Kurse a di Xtabai’ is scheduled to open the weeklong festival. While the anticipation of the Belizean movie is one thing, there will be a record breaking sixty seven films screened at this festival.
Matthiew Klinck, Make-Belize Films
“We did a scary movie, supernatural thriller as Suzette said, called 2012 Kurse a di Xtabai. We shot it in the jungle behind San Antonio village; we shot in San Antonio Village. The B.D.F. came out and di scenes. We had thirty five soldiers that came out with machine guns in this movie. We had the support of all kinds of places.”
Suzette Zaiden, Director, NFC
“Within the sixty four films that they’re going to be showing at the festival, they represent twenty three countries with Belize, Trinidad & Tobago and the U.S leading the pack with about five entries apiece. Another first this year is that we have introduced an element of a jury; an international film jury.”
Shari Williams, Press Officer, NICH
“We have Haq Islam; He is a successful record industry executive and he has worked with names like Maya, Drew Hill, Sisqo and he will be in Belize to scout out some new talents.”
The Festival is set to run from July thirteenth through to the twentieth.
