Guatemalan murdered on Belizean soil

Fitzroy Yearwood

There’s another murder to report. A joint investigation is currently underway into the murder of a Guatemalan national.  The body of forty year old Enecon Moralez Chajaj (Chahah) was found a mile and a half northwest of Xunantunich in the Cayo District on Tuesday afternoon. Chajaj, a resident of Melchor, is believed to have been shot and killed in a wooded area not far from the Belize/Guatemala Border.  The perpetrator is being sought by authorities in both countries.  Chajaj reportedly set out on Tuesday morning on a routine task to cut firewood when he was murdered.  According to Police Press Officer Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood, the body was discovered by Chajaj’s father, sixty-five year old Guillermo Moralez, who became concerned when his son did not return home.

“Sometime around three-thirty, Benque Viejo Police along with the Melchor Police visited an area about one point five miles from the Xunantunich ruin, about two hundred yards from the Belize/Guatemala Border where they found the lifeless body of Enecon Chajaj, a forty year old Guatemalan national.  He was seen with a gunshot wound to the face and an apparent exit wound behind one of his ears.  Police have spoken to the father of the deceased, who made the discovery around midday.  He’s saying that his son left out around eight o’clock in the morning to go and chop firewood and when he realized that his son was taking too long he began searching for him and found him around midday in that condition.  He immediately informed Guatemalan police and the Guatemalan police then got in touch with Belize police and now it’s a joint investigation between the two countries’ law enforcement.”

Chajaj’s body has since been transported to the San Ignacio Hospital Morgue where it awaits a post mortem examination.

I’d rather have most of BDF deployed along the border to secure it for everyone than to be defending Ladyville.
