Main suspect in murder of B.D.F. corporal freed

Donovan Castillo

Donovan Castillo, a B.D.F. corporal, was stabbed to death in Dangriga on Monday morning. His common-law-wife, Marsha Reid, is the main suspect and police indicated on Tuesday that charges would soon be levied. But today, Reid is a free woman, even after she reportedly confessed to the murder. That’s because after being held for forty-eight hours without being charged, she had to be released. The police are awaiting the results of a post mortem and directives from the D.P.P. on what charges, if any, are to be brought against Reid. According to relatives of Castillo, he was sleeping when Reid locked his nephew in a separate room and took his cell phone to prevent him from calling for help. She then allegedly went into Castillo’s room and stabbed him four times, including to the neck and head. He stumbled out of the room, but collapsed on the living sofa and died.

Not judging the alleged murderer as she is not yet being charged for this crime, it is rediculous on the part of the Police not to have charged her for murder within the 48 hour period. First class evidence, admitting to have committed this offense by her own confession should have been enough grounds to charge her. I’m aware of the fact that she is “Innocent until proven guilty” but, it is her responsibility to prepare herself to be vindicated or downgrade to a lesser charge of Mansluaghter in a Court of law. It is so dangerous to release someone that has committed such crime into society. She should have been charged for her own safety and the safety of others but then again, we are in Belize where we all learn after someone is hurt or dead.

To now I see, I commented on that very same situation regarding tampering with “Evidence” when this crime was first reported and shared to us by this news media. This should not change the fact that “First Hand Evidence” could have been used to file charges against the alleged murderer, who confessed to this crime. “Da me do it etc, etc.”. Well they got it from the horse’s mouth, so forward with the case. It’s up to the Judicial System, whether by Jury or not to decide the faith of the defendant in a court of law. This is a felonious crime against the “People of Belize” and need to be dealth with in such order accordingly.

A life is lost here, and no good can come out of this. Condolences to the grieving family. That lady, i heard was abused by this Angel that was killed. Witnesses said he hit her in the steet with his bike and was forcing her to go to his house. The family probably burned the evidence hoping that no one will know that he was abusive and try to get a conviction based on sympathy. Her family received 2 death treats just days before, does anyone know what really happened? i doubt it. so stop judging her in your court of opinion. only 2 people knew what happened and unfortunately one is dead. I heard she is not taking it well. she turned her self back in to law enforcement, She is not a hardcore criminal that kill innocent folks and hide. She admit doing it.

at the time that she was released there was insufficient evidence to charge her because she was claiming self defence and there was nothing to counter it. her 48 hours were up. police couldn’t hold her without charging her. when the post mortem results were in, it told a different story. so she was then charged. is all this chat really necessary? if a charge is laid without evidence, there is a complaint about the police. if they try to get the evidence before they lay the charge, there is still a complaint. really fed up of you ignorant people.
