P.U.P. does the executive shuffle

Major changes were approved today to the executive of the People’s United Party. Here is how the configuration went this morning’s at Independence Hall where Party Leader Francis Fonseca gathered the troops. Firstly, the new faces are mostly elected representatives. Key posts have been eliminated and Fonseca is restructuring his executive to reflect regionalism. At the top, there are now five deputy party leaders: Florencio Marin Junior from the north, Dolores Balderamos Garcia for the east, Julius Espat for the West and Mike Espat for the south. Carolyn Trench Sandiford keeps her post as deputy leader with special responsibility for policy and reform, replacing Narda Garcia. Lisa Shoman, the former director of communication lost that top job, but retained her senatorial appointment. Four regional directors were named: Jose Mai for the north, Ivan Ramos for the south, Landy Habet for the west and Karim Musa for the east. The post of national campaign manager is being eliminated and four regional managers emerged: namely Rodwell Ferguson for the South, Collet Montejo for the west and Ramiro Ramirez for the north. The new treasurer of the party is Dr David Hoy and Henry Charles Usher remains as chairman.

How sad for us that, to a great extent, a major party is just recycling the next generation of kleptocrats associated with a previous, disastrous government. But we elected them, so we have only ourselves to blame.

Can’t we find better somewhere in this great country? In important ways, public corruption and national debt are like slavery — we end up working so others can become wealthy. And by our votes we repeatedly enslave ourselves and our children.

  2. Charlie Price says:

What’s with this guy…we need to UNIFY, bring together the country, NOT DIVIDE it into regions.

  3. Roberto says:

I Agree with Charles; but remember the PUP must have won that is why some people are wielding lots of power. People are power even when they lose! Imagine if we had won!!!

  4. Orlando says:

…Charlie you completely missed the point. I can see clearly how the PUP is finally making significant efforts to unite by bringing representation to the key regions and that it can manage itself. Until they can prove that the can manage themselves as a party, they will never regain the public’s confidence. And they are starting early by the way which is good as opposed to overwhelming the electorate with all the hall and pull just months before an election. Watch out UDP…

  5. Iniate says:

Interesting point there Storm….”by our votes we enslave our children.”

Unity and respect brings peace, as times continue to change, so does our approach to challenges. I pray to the Lord to inspire our modern politicians to have the future of our precious jewel BELIZE in the priority list. Leave aside personalities work for common goals. Remember that the decisions you make today always have consequences that bring positive and negative impacts in the future. Belize is for all of us and for our future generations. Politicians have principle, convictions, patriotism for our country. Tired of seeing ” Money talks and bs walks”. My pledge is have a VISION and a MISSION for our country. After you retire from politics you and your family will still live in Belize, then you shall experience the results of the poor decisions and bad governing of our jewel Belize. PLEASE HAVE THE INTEREST of BELIZE and BELIZEANS AT HEART.

  8. Revolt says:

Seriously…does the PUP think Collett Montejo can make the west win??? Come on.

  9. Santa Elena Resident says:

At least Collet Montejo is getting things done in Cayo Central compared to good for nothing Rene Montero. Whether its Montejo or Dan Silva who will be the next PUP standard bearer for Cayo Central PUP will win this division because people have realized that Montero is only there to enrich himself and his family!!
