Broaster’s latest literary effort: short stories

Story PictureHe’s a cop, a poet, and now Edward Broaster is a short story writer. His latest release, All About Lawful Affairs, was four years in the making and contains eighteen reality-based tales, which tackle the touchy subject of relationships and more specifically, the exploitation that often accompanies them. At the launch this morning Broaster told us about the book’s concept, why he wrote it, and whether it will cause anyone discomfort.

Edward Broaster, Author
“I believe that people in authority tend to use their power and abuse their office in terms of engaging the opposite sex in getting involved or engaged in affairs and so forth, but as well too it has in there problems that affect children where people in authority take advantage of children.”

“When you see so many things happening in the community and in the society and you can’t really come out and protest or out rightly denounce it because of your status, it’s through this medium that I can put it in writing and put it out there without casting aspersions on any one particular individual.”

“I stepped on some toes yeah, and from a male’s point of view I believed that I shared with the women a lot of men tricks and men excuses to get out of their homes and get out there and just indulge in their promiscuity and stuff like that.”

“I think that if we want to develop a better community we should put the issues out there and have them be dealt with and addressed.”

The book sells for twenty dollars and is available at stores or by calling 600-7453. A public launch of “All About Lawful Affairs” is scheduled for Thursday night at Club Next.
