Belmopan resident wins another round of Caribbean Fashion Show

On Tuesday night we told you how Belmopan resident, nineteen year old Rebecca Stirm’s designs are ripping the runway on Mission Catwalk. She won the first judged piece in episode two with a Belize-inspired dress, was runner up in episode three with a piece that represented the “flapper era” of the 1920’s and she has won big again, with a piece inspired by Cinderella Hats. In that fourth episode, Stirm took the challenge easily, with a pants made out of upholstery material topped off with a white tailored belt and completed the outfit with a peach colored satin blouse with white over lace. In a press release issued by Mission Catwalk, on the runway Stirm said, “When I saw the hats I immediately knew which one I wanted to work with. The ladylike peach hat had caught my eye. In my original sketch for the piece, I had planned on doing a soft summer dress. After looking around a bit though, and realizing that everyone else was doing dresses, I chose to do a blouse and pants.” Stirm’s work was a big hit with the judges, who referred to the blouse and pants as “genius,” “exquisitely detailed,” and “unusual and unexpected”. In episode five, the remaining twelve designers will design a piece which will be judged by dancehall icon, Lady Saw. Stirm is competing against regional designers from Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica.  Of all three challenges where a winner was selected, she is the only designer to win two challenges so far and placed second in the other. Stirm is designing for a stack of prizes including cash, the opportunity to show at London Fashion week, sewing equipment among others. This is the second season of the Caribbean fashion designer reality series Mission Catwalk, but the first to include other Caribbean territories outside of Jamaica.
