Pope in Cuba with President Raul Castro

Pope Benedict

Pope Benedict is on a historic two day visit to Cuba; it is first to the island of some twelve million people, of which only about ten percent is estimated to practice the faith.  Benedict landed in Santiago where he prayed at the chapel of La Virgin de Cobre, the site of the statue of the Virgin of Charity. The pontiff alluded to wanting more freedom, but did not make political statements.  The pope said, “I have also prayed to the Virgin for the needs of those who suffer, of those who are deprived of freedom, those who are separated from their loved ones or who are undergoing times of difficulty.” Today, he headed to Havana, where he met with President Raul Castro. Here is a report from CBS.
