3 illegal women, different nationalities, busted

Eli Yanira Aretha Vicente

The Immigration Department has been cracking down on illegal immigrants. So far this week, two women—a Guatemalan and a Salvadoran national—have already been charged and are awaiting expulsion from Belize. They were joined today by a third woman, originally from Honduras, who is also in the country illegally. Thirty-seven year old Eli Yanira Aretha Vicente was arrested on Wednesday after Immigration officials received a tip about her whereabouts. She was asked for a passport, which she provided, but her visitors permit had expired since November twenty-fourth, 2011.  Vicente appeared before Magistrate Sherigne Rodriguez this morning to answer to the charge of Failure to Comply with the Conditions of a Visitors’ Permit.  She pleaded guilty and during mitigation, asked the court how she can obtain legal status in Belize.  Vicente was informed that she must first pay a fine for the last four months that she was here illegally plus additional expenses for her application to be processed. That, however, is at the discretion of the Senior Immigration Officer. In the meantime, Magistrate Rodriguez fined Vicente one thousand dollars and granted a removal order, which is to be enforced upon payment of the fine or at the end of a six month jail term.

What happened? I thought these illegal immigrants could become belizians no problem! Oh…..we are no more in the days before March 7. Too bad they were not caught before the elections, they would have been offered their belizian nationality for 1 vote.

  2. SP says:

Toucan, either you are not from Belize or you failed miserably at grammar. First of all, it is not belizian it is Belizean. Second, these people are just overstaying their welcome, so as every other country would do they have to be fined. In fact, other countries would just kick them out. I seriously don’t know why our immigration department is too lenient with this activity.

WOW!!! The Immigration Dept. must feel so proud of themselves. How come they pick on these women and not on all the illegal male crimminals trafficking humans from Asia and transporting drugs? Oops I forgot, the drug and human traffickers have alot of money to bribe the “honest, hardworking” Immigation Officers. Probaly the same reason they do not put any attention to the Benque and the Northern Border and let all kinds of illegal goods free of duty come right to Belize.

SP, don’t you think they should direct their efforts towards the real crimminals passing through Belize than concentrating on these females? The main reason for residing in Belize is to give the sex-starved Belizeans some affection.

And SP, yes, I know..I mispelled the word “Probably”. It is called a typographical error.
