Farm worker is latest murder victim

A farm worker from the Cayo District is the latest recorded murder victim. Fifty-seven year old Marcelo Caranza’s daughter, Raquel, received a call on February twenty-ninth from Norma Figueroa, a resident of La Gracia Village, who informed her that he had been missing for two weeks. Figueroa said that she had last seen him on February second at his farm in the village. On March first, police conducted a thorough search of the farm and suspected human remains were found about three hundred feet from the road side in overgrown bushes. The remains were taken for forensic analysis and it was not until Wednesday that a post mortem was conducted. Dr. Mario Estradabran concluded that the cause of death was due to machete wounds on his head. Marcelo’s identity was confirmed by police and San Ignacio resident, Dr. Henry Hoil.
