P.U.P. Party Chairman says machinery in high gear
In the blue corner, the P.U.P. has been persistently covering ground in all reaches of the country since the date for General Elections was set for March seventh. Despite recent poll results which indicate that the P.U.P. will be returned to office, the party isn’t taking any chances. According to Chairman Henry Charles Usher, the blue machine is in high gear and currently occupied with final arrangements to transport voters who have relocated from their constituencies.
Henry Charles Usher, Party Chairman, P.U.P.
“The campaign pretty much came to an end last week, the house to house campaigning and the street campaigning and what we’ve been doing at the national level is mobilizing our voters, getting everybody ready and that includes finding out voters who vote in Belize City but live in Corozal or live in Cayo, San Pedro and getting them passages to come in so that they’ll be able to vote. So that is going on right now, the mobilizing and the final preparations are happening right now.”
“In terms of the state of readiness, having taken care of most of the logistical issues within the party and its supporters, in terms of the overall readiness what is that like at this moment?”
Henry Charles Usher
“Well we feel confident that we are ready as a party. We have all the units in place. All our standard bearers have their teams in place. Everything is ready to go for tomorrow and that’s countrywide, both for the thirty-one standard bearers and the nine municipalities. We are confident that we have everything in place and it’s just tomorrow to make sure we bring out our core support because that’s the most important thing on Election Day, to bring out your pledge voters first and then after that start to get the other voters in the division, but make sure they come out and vote, put their X early and then go home early.”
“In terms of, let’s say for instance, Lake Independence and of course the Albert Division who have seen over the past several weeks the resignation of the standard bearers and the area representatives for those divisions. In terms of the degree of confidence that the party has in these particular areas what is that like?”
Henry Charles Usher
“Well it’s true that we had resignations in those areas but I believe that the persons coming in, both Mr. Craig, Mrs. Yolanda Schakron and then Mr. Galvez after she was denied running, they have put together a very good committee in their respective areas and it includes people from the old committees and it includes some new persons, some new blood in the areas and I think that they are very ready. The party has been overseeing the process. I personally have gone in to both Albert and Lake Independence to make sure that the new candidates have everything in place for Election Day. So I am confident that in both those areas we will deliver victory for the party because the people and the committee are ready to bring out their voters.”Email This Story
