Women’s Month; celebrating women in fitness style

Women’s Month kicked off on Thursday and the Women’s Department is celebrating it in fitness style for the entire month. For a second year, the department is collaborating with Body 2000 to promote healthy lifestyles in women and girls. Cynthia Williams of the Women’s Department tells us more.

“As part of women’s month for 2012, the Women’s Department has once again partnered with Body 2000 to offer free fitness sessions through out the month of March. This year’s women’s month is being held under the theme ‘Connecting girls, inspiring futures’ and so it is an invitation to women and girls between the ages of thirty and sixteen to participate in eight different types of fitness sessions, which includes, spinning, Zumba, core strengthening and stepping, flexibility, introduction to weights and of course aerobics. The month looks also at being able to link girls with women. We realize also that if we want to make an impact and ensure that the women are empowered, there has to be that link with girls and so that is why we made that decision to choose the teams. The girls will be involved from the start and throughout the activities; not only from the Women’s Department but from other agencies.”

If you want to be involved in the fitness sessions, there will be daily registration at the Body 2000 between five and five-thirty p.m. The sessions follow immediately and run until six-thirty. You can contact the Women’s Department for the schedule of the sessions. Due to the elections there will not be any sessions from seventh to the twelfth.
