Salvadoran National assaulted 10 year old
A Salvadoran national was convicted today of Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature and he’s going to jail for a year. The trial against thirty-seven year old Jose Cortez concluded just before noon in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith. He was found guilty following the testimony of the victim, a ten year old girl. According to the minor, on August seventh 2011 she went to buy corn from a neighbor and she was playing in the yard while it was being prepared. The little girl says Cortez came and pushed her down. He then pulled her legs apart and exposed himself to her, but when she started screaming neighbors came to her rescue. Cortez, who was unrepresented in court, denied the allegations. His version is that that he was urinating on a nearby fence and when he turned around, while zipping up his pants, the child was standing in front of him. But he says he never made any sexual advances on the little girl. Chief Magistrate Smith did not believe his story and he was sentenced to one year in prison since he is a first time offender.
