Hundreds of challenges on voter’s list

There are over five thousand new voters on the electoral list. From what is known, at least a thousand immigrants received citizenship in the past two weeks to be able to get on the voters list for the upcoming elections. Today, the Elections and Boundaries Commission was put on notice that the Revising court will be facing hundreds of challenges in respect of new registrations. Attorneys for P.U.P. area representative John Briceno have written to the Chairman of the Commission, Alberto August, citing irregularities in the registration of new voters as it pertains to Orange Walk Central Division. An unprecedented three hundred and forty three persons were registered in Central alone, the majority who just got naturalization. Briceno says that based on the evidence so far, many of the persons do not qualify and warns that the Revising court will have a difficult time to process the long list of objections to be made on February third. Briceno urges the commission to ensure that the persons who do not qualify are taken off the provisional list and that the Commission ensures that the Court will be able to deal with the hundreds of objections to be lodged. Statements by Vongelina Chan of San Lazaro Housing site were presented. Chan went public when she found out that Freddy Ixchop and Ana Maria Hernandez had used her address for registration purposes but did not live there. Agustin Escalate Junior also ascertains that Jose Luis Garcia, Hector Perez and Juan Castro had fraudulently used his Cinderella street address to register. Another resident, Handa Sabrina Cambranes also attests that Rebecca Acuna and Francis Marroquin do not live at her San Lazaro Housing site address. The commission was also provided with a recording by two political operatives for U.D.P. candidate Denny Grijalva who persuade a man to register at an address where he does not reside. The Elections and Boundaries Commission met this afternoon and there is word that the irregularities were brought up at the meeting.
