No objections to lower electricity rates

John Avery

As we mentioned previously, the Public Utilities Commission announced a six point four percent decrease in electricity rates earlier this month, which amounts to a drop of about three cents per kilowatt hour on the light bills. Following the announcement, B.E.L. was given until January twenty-seventh to protest that decision but so far there have not been any objections from the government-owned utility company.  The deadline for comments on the matter is this Friday and according to Avery if there is no opposition to the P.U.C.’s decision on the rate reduction will come into effect.

John Avery, Chairman, Public Utilities Commission

“We issued an initial decision on B.E.L. and again, the licensee and interested parties representing users of at least ten percent of the power consumed in the previous year have until the twenty-seventh [of January] to submit comments and objections.  That deadline has not reached as yet.  We have not received any objections or comments as yet and so until that happens there is not really much to say about the B.E.L. situation.  We’re still waiting until the deadline to see if we receive any objections or comments from the licensee which is B.E.L. or from interested parties representing users of ten percent of electricity.  If we don’t get any comments, I mean if we don’t get any objections then by law the initial decision automatically becomes the final decision.  So right now we really have no further comments or anything to discuss with that.  We’ve made the decision and we’re awaiting the deadline to see if we’ll receive any objections.”
