P.U.P. politicking the Election’s Commission?

John Saldivar

The Leader of the Opposition Francis Fonseca wrote the Prime Minister on Thursday regarding the chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission Alberto August. The commission is composed of representatives from both political parties, but the Opposition wants August replaced as chairman because of his activism and ties with the U.D.P.  The Minister of Election and Boundaries says, in his opinion, it’s just politicking.

John Saldivar

“That is strictly politicking. In a polarized society in which you live it is almost difficult if not impossible to find someone that does not have a political affiliation or a political leaning and the history of that position of being the chairman has never been that it is someone that is completely neutral. The persons appointed there always have some opinion with respect to which party they are going to support. So I find that to be strictly politicking. Mister August has conducted himself in a professional manner. The people who serve with him on the commission can attest to that and unless some evidence can be brought that can suggest or verify that he has done otherwise than act professionally, we must give complete confidence to him.”
