His head hammered and recounts tale

Kevin Martinez

Twenty year old Kevin Martinez survived a fight during which he was hit with a blunt object a few times in the head. Martinez was hit with a hammer on Friday and his condition was uncertain after the weekend surgery but he has pulled off a speedy recovery. With his head bandaged, he read the account of the court story in which thirty five year old David Castillo told the magistrate he hit him while defending himself during an attack he alleged was started by Martinez. But a sprightly, talkative and energetic Martinez came to News Five to give his version of the event during which he was hammered.

Kevin Martinez, Hammered to the Head
“I no agree with the lies that he told the court; he said that he was only defending himself because I, Kevin Martinez went to his house and attacked him. That is a complete lie. I went to #1 Gibnut Street where I have lunch at my mother-in-law’s residence—it is an apartment complex; that’s Lisbey’s residence. I went there to have lunch, the guy came in front of me accused me and then my friend Keiron came; I used him as a basketball screen and walked around him and told him I don’t want no problem with you; leave me alone. You don’t know me. I went upstairs, kiss my daughter and came back downstairs. I was on my bicycle—this pink bicycle right here—I was on my bicycle when he came out of his room. The speed that he ran, he whap at my head with the hammer. The speed that I push down my pedal and I dodge down and hold my head. I get up back and I started to beat him; defend myself. He didn’t catch me with the first whap. I’ll say about six to eight punches I gave him before he even had the chance to give me the first whap against my head. When he gave me the first whap across my head, I don’t know how I still managed to give him two more punches and then I fell face front on a cement block. I scraped my chin and burst my mouth. When I was on the ground, my mother-in-law saw that blood sprayed out of the top of my head about six inches in the sky and then it fell back on my face. Then after that, he still came on the ground on top of me and still gave me two more whaps to the side of my left eye. So the doctors stitched me four times across the left eye here and five to six stitches at the top of my head. I underwent surgery at approximately seven-thirty Friday night; when it happened. The doctors took out two millimeters of bone because the bone shaped like a V inside my skull.”

“Let me ask you; what are you guys got? Old beef, fresh beef; what?”

Kevin Martinez, Hammered to the Head
“Not really no beef. He was spreading false rumors about my woman. I told my woman what happened and she went to conflict him and he wanted to beat me for that. I would have avoided everything—I noh even woulda mi listen to yo; da just wah fool. I would have avoided him, but if wah man come at you with a hammer; that is to kill you. So I defend myself—I do all I could.”

Jose Sanchez

“You got hammered in your head. Are you going to press charges against him?”

Kevin Martinez
“Definitely. That’s what I called you guys for check.”

David Castillo will return to court on January twenty-fourth when bail will be considered.
