Price of fuel at the pump going up

There is bad news for drivers tonight because a fuel price hike will take effect at midnight. Premium gasoline will be going up by thirty-two cents to be sold for eleven dollars and twenty-two cents. Meanwhile, the cost of regular fuel will increase twenty-seven cents to ten dollars and eighty-two cents. And diesel, which remains the least expensive fuel, will see the biggest increase of forty-five cents. The new price will be ten dollars and forty-nine cents. You still have a few hours to head out to the pumps before the higher prices kick in.

THAT IS HOW BALD HEAD KEEPS UP HIS PROMISE OF LOWERING THE COST OF LIVING !!!!

  2. Earl Grey says:

WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY…

WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY…

WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY…

WE DON’T IMPORT ORANGE JUICE……WHY IMPORT GAS WHEN WE HAVE THE RAW PRODUCT???

  3. Elias says:

If fuel prices go down… they win election… Mek wi try reach wa lee $9.00 per gallon atleast.

Then I wont have to roll down hills with engine off to save gas.

  4. no to corruption. says:

when will the cost of living GO DOWNNNNNNNNNN? as promised by dean barrow some 4 years ago look like his words were taken away a “leeeee breeze”…still waiting and imagining what possibilities dean barrow will LIE US AGAIN to imagine”.its been too long mr.PM and u failed again,UDP NO GOOD FI Belize.

  5. O. Walk observer says:

The present gas prices do not reflect world prices, they are being manipulated by GOB. They are being taken to extremes; how can Kerosene or Diesel be so expensive and yet they are cheaper to refine?? Remember when Dean put the additional dollar towards the cost of gas and HE said if Crude oil windfall tax kicks in, then the dollar shall be taken off! LIES,LIES. Crude prices have been over $90 mark for almost a year and nobody has heard how mush the government has made. Shame and yet he comes with these Debt writeoff, we shall have to pay. What about Telemedia borrowing from Heritage Bank; didn’t they say a profit of $13 million was made? The UDP government is in par or worse than the previous government and yet people are not saying anything or protesting. Shame.

  6. Reader says:

    S&P report, December 2011:
“Belizean oil is high quality with ample international (primarily U.S.) demand, but because Belize produces too little oil for a domestic refinery to operate cost-effectively, it must ship its crude abroad for refining.”

WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH OIL to refine and BNE doesn’t have an exploration license anymore to find more oil. I hope GOB knows what it’s doing.

  7. BeReal says:

Barrow promised that if the price of fuel goes up beyond $8 per gallon, he would drop the dollar tax he added.

    YET ANOTHER LIE.

  8. concerned says:

why are people complaining about gas? stop smoke and drink and see how much money you will have in your pockets to buy gas. This is a necessity so prioritize! why complain gas is not expensive only in Belize but all over the world. How many people complain that they have to pay $4 or $5 for 355ml of beer or $5 for cigarettes?? This content is a fraction size for size, pound for pound you pay more for things you dont need and don’e complain!

  9. Mosh says:

Imagine the possibilities……No hope, No future.. Choose right on Election day.

  10. BeReal says:

Concerned, you have a valid point and I will add that higher tax be levied on cigarettes and alcohol and drop the tax on gas. In the US, you earn more and yet you pay not more than $8bze per gallon and we earn less in Belize and now back to paying $11bze plus per gallon.

Belizeans, tek weh dem give and vote wisely on election day. Vote for people who you believe in.

  11. ABC says:

concerned, I dont drink or smoke and I still dont see me getting any money in my pocket.

  12. ree says:

Concerned! Concerned! Concerned! you got it wrong my friend. I dont drink, worst smoke…. and I do not have $$$ in my pocket. life hard, very hard.
I have to drive because I live far and work farther….. I walk every where I can, and only drive where I really have to.
I use to get by with $200 gas for the month now Im spending over $400.
So much so I find myself cutting down my priority list….
Im just living for the day when I wont have to buy gas any more because God’s Grace will be sufficient for me.

  13. concerned says:

@O. Walk observer, if you go to the US right now, diesel is more expensive than gas!
@ABC, what people need to do is organize and fight for what is right and stop being partisan! not complain about gas price and some other price!

  14. cali says:

The gas price is not manipulated by the government it is these big oil giants who manipulate the oil price. Yes the governments can maybe do something about it by not buying oil for a day or two and try to force oil price back down. but not much they can do about it. its not a politics that drive these prices up

  15. cali says:

maybe we should try other solutions like Brazil who does not depend on oil too much. they use ethenol from sugar cane. we plant more than in off sugar cane to produce this type of energy the government just need to invest or fine someone to invest and put people to work.

  16. BeReal says:

Cali, you obviously don’t know about the extra $1 gas tax this government placed not to mention the 20-odd “promises” that they fooled people with.

We are not disputing the international oil prices. If other countries can afford cheaper gas, why cant we?? I know our tax base is smaller. but damn how can they pardon house mortgages to those who hold SSB loans which is in the millions?

  17. Oil says:

Earl Grey; it is not as simple as you may think to build a refinery, that would millions of dollars, and take years to build, the cost of it would not make sense and cost the ppl of Belize more in the longer run. Long story short the nation doesn’t have the money or the enough oil to build a refinery. If we had oil reserves like Brazil, Venezuela or Prospects like Guyana then we could think about it. But the size of Belize may still not make it possible.

  18. rod says:

this is how this corrupt gov. is going to pay for their udp crowd to pay off their houses by charging the public guan barro w guan if you want to vote for corruption murders and total devastation then i say vote fu barrow vote udp

  19. Milich says:

Belize is too dependent of US products. Venezuelan products could be far cheaper and we just might have to survive the pressure from US should this option be considered. With the US sanctioning of Iran on Oil export, the Arab community will have to increase production based on demand. This will mean further increase in future oil prices. Invest in an oil refinery now and it will definitely be a life saver in the generations to come. This is of course a major weakness of our government; no coordinated strategic planning.

  20. Earl Grey says:

START WITH A SMALL REFINERY……IT’S BEEN DONE IN BELIZE BEFORE… WE CAN DO IT!!!

IF WE BUILD A REFINERY…WE CONTROL OUR FUTURE!!!

  21. Just sayin says:

BNE needs to have it’s licence reinstated otherwise CHEVRON/EXXON/SHELL ET AL WILL BE THERE IN AN INSTANT AND BLEED THE COUNTRY DRY JUST AS THE BRITISH DID WITH OUR MAHOGANY JUST SAYIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. RedBwai says:

Now if i understand this correctly…its the cost of fuel + the cost of aquisition+ profit+ GOB taxes= What ur paying at the pumps.. now we all the know the cost and aquisition are always changing depending on world prices….if i remember correctly GOB recently placed a flat tax on fuel at a certain percent. How much of what your paying at the pump per gallon of fuel goes to GOB in taxes?? if am correct and somebody please correct me if im wrong…its almost 45 to 50% of what u pay at the pumps goes to GOB in taxes. GOB can and they should lower that fuel tax…thats the only way the prices will do down dramatically…but they cant and they wont lower that tax because that money has already been rationed out as a part of the yearly budget…Our country produces oil…but who really profits from this oil?? who does it really benefit??…certainly not i. Those millions and millions of dollars BNE makes each year….what percent goes to GOB in taxes? what percent actually goes back into the Belizean economy? not what it should be for sure…but what i can tell you is that the majority of those profits are being transferred and are sitting in foreign bank accounts..sad to see foreign companies come here an rape our lil country of our natural resouces and gets away with it…Belizeans dont stand to benefit from any of this…
