Renan Briceño Jr. formally charged for Murder

Renan Briceño Jr.

On Thursday, nineteen year old Dale Tillett succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained during an altercation on New Year’s Eve. He is the first murder victim recorded for 2012 and today charges against his alleged shooter, thirty-two year old Renan Briceño Junior, were formally upgraded by Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. Briceño was initially charged on Tuesday with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. And after three days behind bars, he was taken back to court under heavy police guard to be read a single charge of murder. The case will now go to a preliminary inquiry to determine whether Briceño will stand trial at the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, he has been further remanded to prison until February sixteenth when he is to reappear in court. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of Palm Island Night Club on the Northern Highway. At around four a.m. an altercation erupted involving Briceño as well as Dale and Brandon Tillett. Both Tillett’s were injured in an exchange of gunfire; Brandon was treated at the KHMH for a wound on the left foot while Dale was hit twice behind the head and passed away on Thursday morning. Briceño has not been charged for Brandon’s injuries since it has not yet been determined who fired the shot that hit him.

I am sure Dale was no angel so let’s not try to make him out as such: why was he not at home occupied with school assignments. When I was his age there was no way I would have been allowed to enter those places. My mother would kill me!

It is never good when someone gets snuffed out this way but our society has come down to “kill or be killed”. Decent citicens are arming themselves against thugs that roam the streets.

How do they know that Briceno’s bullet was the ones that struck Dale but not his brother? Is Belize forensics that sufisticated now?
