Santi’s Park and Ride on paved streets

There is a strong breeze of electioneering that is blowing not only among town and city councilors but also standard bearers. And while the Prime Minister has not given a specific date for the general elections, we note that elected Caribbean Shores Representative Santi Castillo is fixing up a city park and promising to pave a few Belize City Streets. Earlier today News Five spoke to Castillo who hopes that Caribbean Shores residents will ride to victory with him on paved streets.

“A few years ago we adopted this park and initially we were supposed to do it with the Meso Reef people. That was up in the air for a couple years; that didn’t materialize so at the end we went with a loan and changed the name to the San Cas Park, changed the plans for the volleyball court, to putting an area for kids. We are totally responsible for the upkeep, everything at this park, put in lights and made it more family oriented. We’re doing it in stages so eventually we plan to do more things for the park. In the center you’ll notice there is a round area where we are hoping to, next year, put some sort of a water theme in there where on Saturdays and Sundays starting around eleven it will come on every hour for five [or] ten minutes for the kids to come and play and get wet—shoot up fountains as they do in Las Vegas, Worldwide. So that is the general idea—to keep it family oriented, clean, someplace for Belizeans to come have lunch, do whatever they want, recreate with their kids, etcetera.

We also have, this actually, this park here we adopted it before I ran for Caribbean Shores. So since then we are with the help of the Prime Minister, Central Government, upgrading streets that are in dire need of repairs and two that I identified to the Prime Minister in my specific area is Sunrise where BERT is—it’s a street that actually got closed off. So it will go right around now; passing Mike Palmerson’s house going right around and on to Applestar. So those streets are slated to be fully paved for the people in that area because whenever it rains, it’s an awful mess—it’s like a lake, you know.”
