Off with the Head; Jamaica cuts off Queen

Portia Simpson Miller

It was announced in mid December of 2011 that the royal family would be embarking on a worldwide tour in 2012 as part of celebrations for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. On his first solo tour, Prince Harry is expected to visit Belize, the Bahamas and Jamaica. But there is another high profile woman who has made some historical comments of her own. In her inaugural speech, the newly sworn-in Prime Minister of Jamaica, Portia Simpson Miller said that Jamaica will be cutting the chord with the United Kingdom. The queen will be removed as head of state, making the island a republic. Jamaica is preparing to celebrate fifty years of independence from Britain. And while she has utmost respect and admiration for the Queen, Miller says that the time has come to complete the circle of independence. The decision is not expected to affect the planned visit of Prince Harry.

a bold move that can be catastrophic for Jamaica eventually.

Jamaica is at it’s lowest level of corruption, povery and crimes.

I think this is another one of Jamaica’s worst mistakes.

They don’t need a new leader, they need new changes, just like Belize.

  5. impartial says:

good for them…poverty, crime or not Jamaica for Jamaicans.

  6. CEO says:

So what will happen if the Queen is no longer head of State? Crime rate will go up? I am sure not more than it has gone up over the years that she was head. Have she/they ever showed up to assist with this mess? Never!

They looted and plundered all these countries which at one time made the Queen of England the richest woman in the world. Just think she never had a real job but was the richest woamn in the world! They never really done much to help in any real way. Our country was always a dumping ground for British goods and a place they could have gotten raw material for free. Are any of you guys reading this old enough to remember when orange juice use to come to Belize from Great Britain? Well fact is not a single orange grows in London and lots grow in Pomona: yes Pomona, Dangriga Belize! Think!

  7. OriginalWoman says:

The Queen curently being” head of state in Belize” is not making any difference to improve the crime, lack of employment, etc…….If Belizeans were to follow Jamacian’s move to “cut the cord with the United Kingdom” do you people actally believe things will get worse??? Staying connected to England is not doing ANYTHING AT ALL TO IMPROVE BELIZE……I am just saying, It might not be a bad idea if we did cut the cord.

  8. Tom Page says:

Jamaica PM wants eyes off the domestic doldrums so she take a run at de Crown.

Oldest trick in the book from an old timer herself. Commonwealth countries have great values, history and economic relations. What is Jamaica’s role now? Friend of geriatric commie Castro?

  9. Just sayin says:

What about our NATIONAL SECURITY? the BDF is NOT ABLE to defend our borders and for sure the Belizeans will be running should Guatemala decide to start their mischief again. Then we will call on Britain!! Remember being a member of the commonwealth has its benefits. Just sayin

  10. ristmon says:

Canada, a much larger and wealthier country, still has the queen as HOS. I’m sure it doesn’t make them less independent. The next move will ahead light….
