Boxing Day accident on Western Highway turns fatal for Luis Polanco

Thirty-four year old Luis Polanco, the driver of a Toyota HiAce, who was transporting a team of employees to Windy Hills Resort for an early morning shift on December twenty-sixth, has succumbed to extensive head trauma he received during the road traffic accident.  Polanco remained comatose at the Belize Healthcare Partners for a week following several cardiac arrests in the wake of the accident.  Sometime around six o’clock on Boxing Day Polanco was heading towards Windy Hills Resort when upon reaching mile sixty-nine on the Western Highway a maroon Isuzu D-max, driven by twenty year old Ian Vega, collided into his driver’s side.  His passengers, Erlin Pook and Reina Ruiz, also suffered massive injuries to their lower bodies.  It is not certain whether any charges have been brought against Vega, whom the families of the victims allege was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

It is time for Belizeans to take justice in their own hands.

My deepest sympathies to the Polanco and Mai family.

There have been a few “Vega advocates”.. you know damn well who you are. Well, we all know who you are, posting comments that people are just attacking the Vegas. To them, I say, SCREW YOU. This is not about the Vegas. This is about the VICTIMS. It’s true that had it been anybody else behind the wheel, it would not have gained this much attention. But the fact is that Ian Vega did not even see the inside of a holding cell, much less been charged with anything “pending investigations” It’s so ridiculous. I second what Benque Gial previously posted. Anyone who was a witness to this accident or who saw Vega drunk the night before…or hours before should come forward. And anybody who took pictures (hopefully) should post the pics for all to see. That way, these advocates can see the facts.

I think that it is quite amazing that no charges have been brought against Ian Vega, if it where any one else they would be in Jail. The family has not even met with Luis family to say sorry or anyhting. I always had a lot of respect for the Vega family but i know feel like i have developed such a hatred for them. It is like he just killed a dog on the street. Incredable that in Belize you can get away with tyhis $#!% but such is life in this poor country.

Well we all know the sad outcome here guys…..no alcohol test was done on vega so other than some ridiculous traffic charges this dude is walking clean while these hardworking families struggle to pay off their medical bills. My condolences to the Polanco family and a speedy recovery to the others….

CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE LUIS POLANCO, I AM SURE GOD WILL THE HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN THROUGH THIS TIME, AND BELIEVE ME THESE CHILDREN WILL GROW BIG SOMEDAY THEY WILL BECOME HARD WORKING CITIZENS IN THIS COUNTRY.

WELL AS FOR THE VEGAS, ALL I CAN SAY THAT THE WORD OF GOD SAYS VENGEANCE IS HIS OK, YOUNG VEGA CAN RUN BUT HE CANNOT HIDE,

WE MOST ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT MONEY CANNOT BUY A LIFE AGAIN, HUMILITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY. HAD THE VEGAS COME FORWARD AT LEAST TO SYMPATHIZE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR THEM. NOW ALL I CAN SAY IS INSIDE THAT CASTLE WHERE THEY LIVE IN BENQUE VIEJO TOWN WILL FOREVER BE TORMENTED, UNTIL GOD BRING THEM DOWN FROM THERE.
HUBLE YOURSELVES YOU VEGAS ITS NOT TOO LATE TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE WIDOW AND HER FATHERLESS CHILDREN.

  9. CityGial says:

I agree with truebelizean, this is not about the VEGAS, its about a family who just lost a loved one to a tragic traffic accident…and wat get me more angry is that nothing has been done to that reckless driver who is responsible for that death…tho nothing will bring back mr. Polanco, Ian Vega shud be charged and put in jail!

  10. fedup says:

Guys we all know the sad outcome of this…..no sobriety test was done on Vega so other than some ridiculous charge if any this dude is walking clean…..This is the big question….WHY WAS THIS SOBRIETY TEST NOT DONE???? Shouldn’t it be standard procedure if there’s suspicion of drunk driving????Mr. Mai can you answer this???? A few years ago i was pulled over in san ignacio for some bs traffic violation and i was literally dragged out of my truck and taken to the hospital for a sobriety test………….made me urinate twice btw because the first vial looked too clear…..so go figure why Vega was not tested for drunk driving?????..My Condolences to the Polanco Family for their loss and a speedy recovery to the others.
