Boxing Day accident on Western Highway turns fatal for Luis Polanco
Thirty-four year old Luis Polanco, the driver of a Toyota HiAce, who was transporting a team of employees to Windy Hills Resort for an early morning shift on December twenty-sixth, has succumbed to extensive head trauma he received during the road traffic accident. Polanco remained comatose at the Belize Healthcare Partners for a week following several cardiac arrests in the wake of the accident. Sometime around six o’clock on Boxing Day Polanco was heading towards Windy Hills Resort when upon reaching mile sixty-nine on the Western Highway a maroon Isuzu D-max, driven by twenty year old Ian Vega, collided into his driver’s side. His passengers, Erlin Pook and Reina Ruiz, also suffered massive injuries to their lower bodies. It is not certain whether any charges have been brought against Vega, whom the families of the victims allege was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
